I don’t know its exact vintage or manufacturer, but I do know I like this. I’m particularly fond of that type of grille. Judging by the hubcaps and some other cues, I’d say late it’s from the late ’50s or very early ’60s. I’m sure someone out there can fill us in on the details.
CC Outtake: Vintage Chevy Step Van
– Posted on December 21, 2012
The body is almost definitely an Olson Kurbside. As for age, one of the pictures I found on Google said 1948 and the one with wheels most like this one said 1962.
So, you’re saying that it is a Kurbside Klassic?
Where’s the “Like” button on this thing?
+1! 😀
I actually own this van … funny I’m strolling through this site and I see this pic and think … hmm that looks just like my van and here it is.
Another shot
Whatever it is, I like it. Probably six with a stick which makes it perfect for a camper (in my world anyway).
Free Candy van….Ozzie and Harriet Edition.
Well, if someone’s handing out free candy in this thing, whatever their final motives might be, they’d be more successful, because the truck just look so cute and friendly.
I love that grille too. It’s from the era when truck faces looked friendly-strong, not Rambo-strong.
Good point but sadly “Butch” sells.
Its funny how the new GMC trucks look less Rambo than the Chevys now. It should be the other way around.
I wonder if that’s an aluminum van body – could be since I don’t see any rust out. The assembly of the windshield from flat pieces makes for less worry about losing a big curved piece of glass to a little rock.
I agree with you, MikePDX, on the friendly face.
My dream is to make one of these into a camper van.
Funny. I just saw this one a couple of weeks ago in the next county. I didn’t see any identification, and the owner was elsewhere.
. . . and from the other side . . .
A herd of happy hippies could dwell within the conveyance’s confines.
I really like those great old American step vans from the ’40s through the early ’60s. The International Metros and Divcos are my favorites. A few years ago an elderly gentleman was selling his 1957 Ford Vanette P-500 (a former ice cream van that had the highly desirable Thorens amplified disc music box still in it) and he wanted $3,000 for the van. Alas, I passed on the deal. i wish I had purchased the cool old van. It would’ve made a trick rat rod!
I have a 1952 Chevy Drive line, Grunnan bodied, Double Duti.
Every body incorectly calls it a step van, which did not exist in 1952.
I have had it since 1972, it is currently on the road. My version, has the extended body lenght, duel rear wheels, 1 1/2 ton capacity, with Hydo Vac assisted massive drum breaks. The engine is a No insert / full babbit rod, 216 cu in chevy engine, with a huge 4 speed stick, First gear is for ripping tree trunks out of the ground. The two rear doors are double hinged, so they fold right along the side of the body.
Wish I had the optional two speed rear end.
I once drove it from long Island New York, to Yardly Penn. There I loaded a complete dismantled 1939 Plymouth body into the truck, and towed the chassis behind it, and drove it all home.
One hell of a great truck.
Anyone know where I can get the front corner curved glass?
I need curved corner windows too
in addition to my comments above about my great looking, great running, very usable 52 Chevy Double Duty, if any one has any info on where I can get my hands on some replacment wheels, I’m looking for original 18 inch, split rim, wheels, that came on 1- 1/2 ton chevy truck chassis. These wheels were usedhub out on the front and two facing each other for the duel rear wheel set up on the back.
And info regarding the above, wheels, and or curved front corner glass, please contact me at roblamanna@msn.com,
Thanks in advance,
Rob
