This report was post-recorded for replay at an earlier time, as Wife and I will be tent camping in Yellowstone for a couple days and CC-spotting will probably be unlikely. On our way through South Dakota, we happened to stop for gas at the same exit as the Pioneer Auto Show. Unfortunately our schedule did not permit a visit, but I did take a couple minutes to shoot this nice-looking Hudson I spotted in front of a close-by restaurant before we jumped back on the highway.
There’s just something about the lines of Hudsons from this era that gets my blood pumping…
The interiors as every bit as nicely styled as the exterior.
The Super Six was the entry level offering, but even so, this one sure looks like a million bucks!
“On our way through South Dakota, we happened to stop for gas at the same exit as the Pioneer Auto Show.”
Sure, just by happenstance 🙂 Wifey evidently vetoed a visit!
BTW $14,950 seems a bit steep
Count me as another fan. Great to see an old Hudson out on the road.
I LOVE the step-down Hudsons! If I saw that IRL it would have been all I could do not to write a (bad) check for the full amount and drive it away with a huge grin on my face.
i don’t ever remember ever seeing one. i sure would love to go for a ride. they evoke the past of some alternative future. for some reason, i am reminded of the vehicles in the warner brothers cartoons of my youth. it’s the kind of car i would imagine bugs bunny driving.
I remember lots of Hudsons having the blinds in the rear window.
There’s one in my neighborhood whose owner evidently waits for me to be out without a camera before taking it for a spin. 🙂 Beautiful cars.
Step up to a Step-down Hudson! For whatever reason, I think the 4-door Hudsons of that vintage look a bit better than the 2-door models. This is of course mere nit-picking. That is a very pretty car, and ‘m glad you got a good interior shot– love that steering wheel.
Agreed, the roof line of the 2 door doesn’t suit the car as well as the fastback – of course that view is colored by the fastback being the iconic car that it is.
Beautiful cars, I would love me some Hudson “hot-six”. 😛
Let the record show that centre-mounted gauge clusters and the consequent driver’s-side glove boxes predate the Toyotas Echo and Prius…
What’s it say on that steering wheel? Looks like two letters on each side of the triangle. Why’s it different from the usual round hub?
Sure wish I was behind that wheel myself. Something about the last photo knocks me out, that front end design is just perfect.
It’s upside down, but it’s the same symbols seen here:
Cool, little two-masted ships for Henry Hudson. Thanks!
The “lettering” on the steering wheel are the little Hudson graphics from the Hudson crest laid out horizontally on the steering wheel. Super Six pretty nice for an entry level model priced comparably with an Olds 88 (not an Olds 76); for ’50, a cheaper Pacemaker series arrived with “old matress” striped pattern seats, a plain two-spoke steering wheel, painted dash and rubber mats.
I prefer the club coupes (and later hardtops) to the sedans, however, any step-down would be a plus to own and drive.
Love the last shot – a “Super Six” by the “Super 8”!
The favorite car from my youth that my Dad almost afforded once. I still love them and don’t care how many doors. They were the king of the circle track when I was a kid and didn’t do badly at Nascar. Go roaring hudson.
“The favorite car from my youth that my Dad almost afforded once.” Now there’s a good thought. In my case it was a ’68 GTO. We were about to get one, then one day we weren’t. I’m guessing it’s the insurance he couldn’t afford.
Nearly happened with my Dad and a mid 80s Monte Carlo SS. Claimed his teenage children needed more rear seat room. I told him I would have put up with it.
I am conflicted. I love this car but don’t much like fastbacks as I certainly expressed in another thread. I guess I’m schizophrenic but I would take one of these today. it’s a broken roofline though and I think you could see out the rear window.
Not to reopen a can of worms, but that shot of the glowing trunk and venetian-blind back window is just begging for a comparably curvy pin-up gal.
That color combination really knocks me out. I love it!
