Interesting shot. Looks like Germany (Golf, NSU, and Renault? truck, VW Transporter). What is this, a 917 wanna be? Probably has an asthmatic air-cooled VW in the back. Call Steve McQueen. Whoops! Too late.
Porsche 917. This one is the real thing. I actually saw several in action (and in the pits) when I was a young pup attending the Can-Am races at Mosport.
Mk1 Golf/Rabbit. I owned one. Early-1975 model. Used, rode hard and put up wet before I got it. Terribly unreliable — but still tons of fun in its day.
Renault 10(?). My father forced one of these on my mom in the mid-1960’s. Perhaps they were OK in Paris, but lousy in southern Ontario.
Hmm, I’ve seen two relatively exotic cars on the road that I can think of, in both cases on US 101 heading south from San Jose. One was a Ford GT40, and the other a McLaren. If I recall correctly, the owner helpfully identified the car with a license “M6GT”. This would have been in the early ’80s. No, didn’t see the cars the same day…
I was at a vintage race at Road America sometime in the early 90s. A guy rolled a 917 out of an enclosed trailer, started it up, let it run for a few minutes, drove it back into the trailer and closed the door.
I don’t know if he had an engine problem (sounded pretty awesome to me), but I really was hoping to see it on the track. The whole infield stopped and stared when he fired it up.
The Durango ’95 purred away a real horrowshow – a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark.

It’s very much the real thing.
You could get passed underneath by this one, Paul. Get a photo through the floorboards of the F-100 as it goes by!
Station Attendant: “Ummmmmmmmmm… high octane I assume, Sir?”
What is it? The guy on the right doesn’t look to comfortable!
He may not be comfortable, but I’m sure he was having too much fun to notice.

Jealous of the car, the hair on the passenger, and the fine German roads. You’d lose that thing in a pothole around here.

“You’re sure the route instructions said Bear Right?”
