This is a real photo of a real Chevy Suburban I shot in stop and go traffic one day on the West 610 Loop in Houston. It really begs for smart-ass alec comments, so take your best shot.
If you’re thinking “That’s impossible! No vehicle could actually drive on public roads that low!”, you’re right. Once traffic got moving, it raised up a couple of inches but was still really, really low.
Actually, this is pretty cool. Hydraulics are wonderful things.
You know what would be really cool, to take it to the next level (pi) – would be to utilize the current new auto engine stop/start technology, and configure it to slam and raise the vehicle at traffic lights. That way you could take a feature which is basically pointless, and make it useful.
I wanted longer, lower, and wider, but wanted the utility of an SUV. Instead, I ended up with a vehicle that could only be driven on a really big air hockey table.
I’m thinking “I wanted a low rider, but I live in Texas where the SUV is the official state vehicle.”
The owner has retrofitted his Suburban with a Lincoln air suspension system, I see. 🙂
It looks like a Zamboni.
Hahahaha, yes it does!
“Now I am finally ready to beat that smug I-H Scout and fru-fru Citroën DS in automotive limbo!”
The owner just wanted a car that his pet corgis could enter without an undignified ramp
Finally a cute Corgi picture on CC! Sooner or later anything on the internet is bound to have one. Corgis rock.
It’s all about the ground effects; just need to add the fans and it’ll be complete.
“With this new 500 mile battery we won’t have to plug in until Iowa”
I remember when I lived in California in the early 80s and low riders were a common sight on the freeway heading north on friday and saturday nights. They were so low to the pavement that they could not go fast and consequently they slowed traffic in nearly every northbound lanes. I admired the cars, but hated them for clogging up the roads.
All my friends know the low rider
The low rider is a little higher
Low rider drives a little slower
Low rider is a real goer
Low rider knows every street, yeah
Low rider is the one to meet, yeah
Low rider don’t use no gas now
Low rider don’t drive too fast
Take a little trip, take a little trip
Take a little trip and see
Take a little trip, take a little trip
Take a little trip with me

Sub-Urban
Sub-curbin’
Still 6 ft too high!
The next project will be to blacken the windows.
I wouldn’t want to be seen in that thing either.
With lots of potholes we got this winter in Quebec. I think that suburban would had flying high if it hit a pothole. 😉
(After sparks go flying…) That’ll leave a mark! 😉
That’s one way to improve aero on a box suburban
Some people took the cancelling of the B-body wagon harder than others.
While other companies work on autonomous driving for their SUVs, GM works on its stealth mode option for the 2020 Suburban!
In a weird way, that Suburban reminds me of my cat when he’s trying to crouch down as low as possible and stalk the birds outside the window.
Sweet catch and aside from the wheels this Suburban sure looks cool!
Wow. That…uh…thing certainly makes a statement on behalf of its owner/attacker: “My brain is riddled with syphillis and/or I am a drugs dealer”.
Yeah, I wanted a SUV, but Im afraid of heights…
There is an identical (even down to the rear doors!) Suburban that lives a few blocks away from me, however, it’s NOWHERE as low as this one! 🙂
Very Ugly !! I am from the opinion that vehicles Must stay Stock !
This is what Luke, Obi-Wan, and the two droids in the back should have been rocking on the ride into Mos Eisley on Tatooine… The new Land Speeder SUV, this why there was no longer any demand for the X-34.
“Many people said that with the introduction of the “Urban” model of the Suburban, General Motors design sank to a new low.”
