Although there are a few donks in town, there’s probably just as many if not more “art cars”, like this Taurus wagon. Did someone grow up watching too much sci-fi?
Keeping a tally of downed bicycles: VII so far.
Must have had fun scrounging for the various parts.
The obligatory self-referrential ironic sticker on the rear window.
All that “iron” strapping is soft foam.
I normally hate ‘art cars’ (other than the BMW factory one’s), but this one is rather neat. Definitely well thought out. A far cry from the mindless “glue lots of toys and baubles to the shell of your car”.
Agreed. Most art cars aren’t put together with any sort of thought, they just look like someone stuck all the contents of a yard sale onto a car. This is cool. And bonus points for no played out Zombie stickers/references on it.
Mad Max, your new car is ready!
Somehow, “Last of the Inline-Four Interceptors!” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
There’s a lot of future on his Ford.
Nice.
Looks like the National Lampoon’s Family Truckster painted black primer.
It reminds me of the Borg ship from Star Trek, although it is unlikely to be intended to be that, since a Taurus is the worst possible choice for that role. A Scion xB or Nissan Cube would be the ideal starting points for a Borg art car.
I have a feeling that this might be just working with what they had on hand instead of buying a car to do this to.
Explains the brake fade on a ’98 Taurus I rented: resistance is futile.
Love the DEVO reference!
It’s different. Definitely looks better than your average “art” car that resembles a rolling garbage pile.
If I ever start gluing random junk to my car, please take my keys away.
We’ll let you keep your keys. We’ll only take away your glue and the random junk.
Looks like steam punk genre…
Agreed.
Yup somewhere between “horseless carriage” and “Captain Nemo’s Submarine”. Back somewhere in my warped youth I thought about what it would be like to do something similar to this to a late 60s Cadillac hearse.
And looking at it from that point of view, the basic shape of the car is absolutely perfect for the intended execution.
+1. There is an annual steampunk fest in Waltham, Mass. This bathyscaphe would fit right in.
Great improvement over the original.
Agreed!
My reaction as well. Marvelous.
The only locale with more “art cars” than the Mississippi district of Portland. Paul, how did a conservative gearhead end up in that bastion of Oregonian weirdness? Fire and water come to mind.
I’ll see that Taurus and raise ya one….
Hate to run across that van in a dark alley in the middle of the night.
Wow that’s cool.
That’s the “EXTREMO the clown” van.
He’s an interesting fellow.
Looks like RoboCop’s wife’s car…
Inspired by Blade Runner.
Did a couple art cars with my kids when I was still teaching. Both revolved around the Houston Rockets which was about all that got their attention. Think the Oilers had already pulled up stakes. Houston has a very big Art Car parade called the Orange show. Some of the cars are pretty clever and not all are just tacked on garbage.
To me this doesn’t fit in the standard art car classification, it’s more of a theme car similar to the motorcycles like built by OCC et al.
I do like it, nicely executed with an obvious plan and direction.
Looks like Murilee Martin has some relatives in Eugene.
I’d say this vessel is capable of at least warp 5.
Very nicely done but a poor choice of a vehicle for this theme IMO. This would look pretty cool on something more boxy & square like maybe an early S10 blazer, cargo van or big B GM wagon (post-’76)…or maybe anything older & crappier for that matter.
The iron strapping, gas filler and bike tally are my favorite touches.
