Because it looks exactly the same upside down as right side up. Weird; don’t look at it too long. All they need is some cigars to celebrate.
We haven’t done a CC Caption Contest in quite a while, but it think it’s self explanatory. And this one should stimulate some creativity. Ready, set, go….
Bagged this one with my 12gauge with 00 buckshot.
Widetrack my ass…
I assume the big puddle near the rear is gasoline? If so, we’ve got a saying around here for such occurrences…
“got a light?”
🙂
More like “Catapulta”.
“Dorothy, I like seeing all the sights we can as we travel too, but did we have to stop and see the “World Famous Up-Side-Down Pontiac” again?”
Okay, they look very calm and collected for a couple of people who just had their car flip over. That puddle beneath the car, is that water, I hope? I’m thinking that this might be the “before” shot for Famous Last Words: Hey, somebody got a match?
Oh, wait a sec, Mr. Thelen beat me to it…
“Some day we’ll look back at this picture and laugh”
“So, it’s not ‘keep the rubber side up and the shiny side down’? You sure about that?”
“Cars can’t tow things.” “Current Yukon XL owner.”
or something like that.
“Wait a minute…where’s little Johnny?”
This is a rare Australian made Pontiac, before it’s adaptation to northern hemisphere driving conditions…
Lol, I just logged on to post a caption along those lines… Well done!
+1 and it’s even right hand drive in that position!
You kiwis also live upside down.
To our advantage, they always live in the past.
Aerial Tuned Suspension
Bet they fined him real good at the next Elks lodge meeting.
“Honey, we did dump the grey water when we broke camp this morning, didn’t we?”
Who needs seatbelts???
“Stop smiling Edith, there aint nothing funny about this….”
“The price of the $26.75 Heavy Duty Trailering Package crossed Al’s mind for a moment….”
Lol, I was thinking he didn’t go for the optional anti-sway bars
Edith’s roadside twerking had distracted Al….again!
New Catalina as shown with available Park-o-Roof and luxurious plushwall tyres you’ll want to touch or lean against anytime.
Bob was adamant about inspecting the chassis of his car every 3000 miles, no matter where he was.
Not all Cats land on their feet.
This one is my favorite!
Bob swerved to avoid a Jackelope, and this is what he got for his efforts.
“Aren’t you glad we didn’t get the hardtop?”
How about that roof strength?
“Yeah, but we’re first at the campsite and that’s all that matters”
“I’ll bet this just ruined the sandwiches in the cooler”
“Edith, crawl back in there and grab my lighter and Tareytons”
Him: “OK honey, I’m finished!”
Her: “hmm, maybe it did look better the other way round after all.”
“Wow. The same thing happened to our Corvair, obviously its not the way I drive”.
Bob Lutz > Poncho
/thread
…and it only took 45 rpm…
“See Edith, now I don’t have to jack up the car to rotate the tires.” “Yes dear.”
Ha ha, Mr. Lutz, I flipped a REAL car, not the tin can you flipped. Top this!
“Bob, stop saying that! My mother better NOT have “A big one” when she sees this picture”
Well, we’d been drinkin’…
Bob was a punctual fellow, and when he said “wheels up in 30 minutes”, he meant it!

Bob and Edith’s son eventually became a stylist for Pontiac. He was stumped for a fresh design idea for the front end of the new Aztec until he remembered this family picture.
Seriously, that upside-down/right side up bumper/grille is mind-blowing.
“Edith, I think you need one more lesson”
Old Gold rolled but didn’t fold.
Far side buckled but we stayed cold.
Camper damper upset camber.
At least we didn’t bring the Rambler.
“I shouldn’t have bothered to fill up the gas tank at the last exit.”
“Yes! We’ve bagged a Catalina! Now on to a Bonneville!”
Bob and Edith always looked forward to weekend diversions.
Edith: “Bob, I told you not to try to fold up that Happy Motoring road map and drive at the same time.”
“Recall announced: Dog dish hub caps prove too light to balance Pontiac’s Catalina.”

DOES YOUR CAR TURN OVER IN THE MORNING? USE GENUINE GM PARTS!

Al and Edith’s Pontiac stops for a short rest near Lucky Lake, Idaho.
Erik Carlsson on hoilday in the USA
Mr. Harold Walters poses with his wife Helen in front of their Pontiac Catalina (with trailer) after their failed attempt to do a barrel roll. They continued on to enjoy their cross-country vacation, even attempting a jump of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
“Gerald showing off his Firestone Wilderness AT tires. Set at 26psi, per manufacturer recommendation.”
My guess is the owner was a skinflint by getting a base Catalina, and obviously didn’t opt for the towing package and now he’s paying for it. What a disaster towing with bias plies must be, wow!
What was GM so concerned about rollover standards they thought would materialize in the early 70’s, seems to be holding up fine in this case!
The last thing I remember was saying to Edith; “Honey, hold my beer and watch this”
I’m amazed that the Pontiac appears to have rolled on the driver’s side, yet it appears unscratched, and the greenhouse appears intact, as well.
Not that I ever hope to have to know this – especially since I drive a convertible – but other than resetting the fuel pump safety switch on modern cars, can you just flip it back over and start it? Or does the oil need time to “settle” back down into the pan?
STORM CHASERS AVOID CATASTROPHE
Tornado Alley, USA
Storm chasers Sean Casey Sr. and his wife Helen stand next to their overturned tornado intercept vehicle. Says Mr. Casey “Thank heavens for the strudy post roof structure of our Pontiac Catalina chase vehicle!”
“Helen, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore”
