I came across this Olds 50th Anniversary film, but the YouTube poster said that he it was without the original soundtrack, which he couldn’t find anywhere. he did add some low-key music, and I think it works terrifically, as the visuals are very evocative.
It reminds me a bit of the time in my young adult years when I would have the tv on without its sound, and play music on my record player. There were times that the results were much better than hearing people squawking away.

And if you really need to be told what’s going on with the 1948 Olds, here’s some shorts, essentially ads played in the movie theater.
As an aside……it looks like i got it wrong when i said GM copied the styling of the Bentley continental as the Bentley was made from 1951 through 1952 bu muliner ward. it appears the copying was done by bentley.
When I see this car I think of aerodynamics. Someone thinking it would be fast took it to Bonneville and found out that it’s basically a wing set for takeoff. Not exactly what you want at speeds above 100 mph.
While this 1948 model is considered to be “Futuramic” the big futuramic change would occur the next year in 1949 with the debut of the OHV “Rocket V8”.
A little jarring, seeing that flathead 6. As noted, the Rocket V8 was yet to come.
Another trip down memory lane. My folks bought two ’50 88’s- a Dark Green 4 Dr. and a Red 2 Rd. Hardtop. Dad told mom he’d buy her a car of her choice if she got her driver’s license. She did… and that’s how the Red Hardtop joined the sedan in the garage.
“In My Merry Oldsmobile” was the staple music in Olds commercials in the late 40’s and beyond. Started even earlier. Still love that tune. “See The USA in your Chevrolet” was the theme for Chevrolet, often performed by the lovable Dinah Shore, used until the early 60’s. On hearing either of these, I used to come running towards the TV just to get a glimpse of the latest in autos – which Olds always seemed to be. Chevrolet not far behind.
