How about a movie car chase scene with a Danish flavor? Sandra L. sent me this clip from the 1977 movie “Olsen Banden – derudaf” and although it’s a bit modest by Hollywood standards, it does capture a distinct European flavor of the time. And how many car chase scenes involve a Citroen CX wagon?
Signaling lane changes even when you’re in the middle of a car chase. How very European.
I was going to say that, too!
I wonder if Mr. Larsen changed trades after that chase…
I think that Taunus is not only very attractive but also appears to be quite fun to drive!
By far my favorite European Ford
And in considerably better shape than Onslow’s from Keeping Up Appearances!
The Danish Dukes of Hazzard.
“Boss Hogg! Them Duke boys done broke into Tivoli Gardens again!”
Whin I think of a citroen car chase I think of the one in Disney escape to wich mountain. I didn’t know what kind of car it was when I was a kid but I liked how it looked.
Hmm, I was noting the differences in cornering style between the RWD Ford and the FWD Citroen, but didn’t expect the driving wheels to be so critical to the “plot”. Nice one!
That CX is on the wrong height setting and is hopping around the corners rather than using the suspension travel.
The car cutting in half is reminiscent of a similar James Bond one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtRoiIf2A3s
Great Fun
Yes, that was “A View to a Kill”, Roger Moore’s last outing in 1985 and it was a Renault 11 that ended up as a two-wheeled convertible. I wonder if this movie inspired that? It seems very well coordinated in terms of the control the drivers are displaying, and the fates of the Morris Minor and 2CV caught up in it all make for some interesting vignettes.
I wonder if that high suspension setting isn’t on purpose? Raising that would presumably stiffen the suspension, making it possibly easier to toss around. But I’m not familiar enough with these to say for sure; just speculating.
Taunus/Cortina MK4 being driven at its limits while the Citroen is just being driven,
I was thinking much the same; the Taunus/Cortina was being very skilfully pushed, taking advantage of its handling characteristics. Would have been even more fun with a Capri though! I’ve been a passenger in one being drifted round a rounabout.
And the gags just keep on coming, even though you can see them a mile off.
That Citroen sure does plow through the corners whereas the Taunus lookes nicely balanced.
Cutting the CX in half definately helped with the understeer though.
Delightful ! More, more . . .
I’ll take the yellow Renault R5 @ 0:30 – 0:33.
If I’d known my ’82 LeCar could handle like that, I might still be driving it.
What?! All this and nobody crashes through a fruit stand?
or a pile of cardbaord boxes…
Blimey but the Cortina/Tanus was a pile. Absurd levels of nose dive, body roll, understeer (with a bit of uncontrolled tail-out at the limit) and all without benefit of some squishy rebound-damped French ride (or seats). The suspension fundamentals were basic but perfectly ok, so why the tuning was almost wilfully off is a mystery. But they did make it a brilliantly dramatic car chase car in endless episodes of The Sweeney et al from ’70’s England and for that, I loved it.
Actually, for the looks, I loved it anyway.
A chase scene of deliberate and escalating silliness, and all the finer for it.
That was about as exciting as watching paint dry!
