sheesh, late again. Yup, an ’86 to ’91 vanagon, but I’m gonna go further and claim it’s an 89 or later Westfalia, 2wd, not syncro.
Why not a syncro? Chances are syncro owner would have ditched the DOT rectangular headlight for either (expensive) euro-spec rectangulars, or gone for the 4 round light South African grill.

PS ooh, I’m all tingly anticipating Canucklehead’s dismissive comments about Vanagons 🙂
I think we have a winner with Mr. Wayman. His prize is a 1987 Renault Alliance GTA convertible. Considering its reliability and quality, maybe he can use it as a nice outdoor planter.
Looks Landrover-ish to me, but i haven’t been close in years, so who knows?
Renault Alliance
Renault Alliance.
VW Vanagon, 1986-1991
Gotta agree…. 86-91 Vanagon
Thirded.
Late Vanagon all day.
I’m surely wrong, but I certainly *wish* it were a Peugeot 604.
Agree with Renault Alliance.

Renault Encore.
forthed or fithed, Vanagon. I thought fore sure it was a 78-79 Fairmont at first glance
Encore at first glance, although case can be made for VW
Let me slightly amend my answer.
Renault Alliance GTA.

sure looks a lot like the 81 Datsun pickup I had. Pretty sure it’s not with all these other guesses sounding sure of themselves.
