Is it possible to show any more sheetmetal without showing you the car?
Look carefully – in how many contemporary cars is it possible to see the corners of the hood? It certainly helps with knowing where ones beak is at, making it safer at all speeds. Oh, what a feeling that is!
1971 Ford Galaxie / LTD?
My first thought was Rolls Shadow/Bentley T but there’s no mascot visible.
1971-72 Mercury Marquis? My first thought was Lincoln, but they all had hood ornaments by that time, I think.
80 something Town Car minus its hood ornament?
Nope, those had below-cowl hidden windshield wipers.
I’m going with Chris Green on this one, based on the cowl mounted stainless wiper arms and lack of a stand-up ornament or chrome hood trim.
Chrysler Newport (75-76) sans the hood ornament!
Looks like a hood ornament less Ford LTD 1973 to 78.
That’s what I thought at first, but I seem to recall my wipers on my ’73 being below the hood and hidden on that LTD…. I like the 80’s Town Car suggestion above, but would think they’d hide the wipers on a nice car like that too.
I’m thinking a ’67 Mercury.
I used to have an 87 Mercury Grand Marquis that looked just like this except for the exposed wipers, so I’m guessing a late 60’s Mercury.
’79-’85 Toronado, sans hood ornament?
Good suggestion, but I think it might be one of the ’71-’78 generation ones, as the “fins” appear more pronounced. I’ll go with ’71-’72, as there is no hood ornament.
But those wipers…
The lil clue, you said, Jason, says it might be a Toyota Cressida … 1977-1980 or 1981-84( I used to own an 84). 😉
I saw that clue too (Oh what a feeling!) but it sure looks big to be a Cressida. Hmm.
Chris, it looks kinda like your 1976-77 Monte Carlo or a 1977-79 Chrysler Cordoba, or even a 1977-79 Ford LTD II… One of the great beasts of the Malaise, with stacked headlights.
Which woulda been my first guesses, but the “Oh What a Feeling” clue made me change direction. Lol
Definitely not a Cressida, first boyfriend had one, the fender shape is all wrong for both the 70’s and 80’s models (his was a 78 from memory) and a friend had one of the boxy 80’s ones which was a really nice car. Thought it might be a Crown but they never had the blade fenders either.
Either a Mercury or a Lincoln. I’m leaning towards a 1972 Grand Marquis or 1972 Continental Town Car myself.
75-79 Lincoln Continental Towncar missing the hood ornament?
Ooh! I know, I know!
Spit it out and shame the devil!!! ;-}
Tom’s not alone; I know what it is, also. 🙂
Bup bup bup, I have been sworn to secrecy! Plus, Jason’s buying lunch at the car show in Hannibal in May, and I want to stay on his good side. 🙂
I’m pretty sure it’s not a Toyota, I think Jason has only ever been in one and that was a 2014 rental…
It’s 2016, Jim… Update your calendar, anything is possible. 😉
Jim – After scouring my brain, I’ve driven four Toyota’s. A rental Camry, a rental Corolla, a privately owned 2010 Camry, and a Solara convertible.
I’m full of surprises!
The exposed wipers knock out 71 and up Ford, Mercury, Lincoln full size models, 69 and up Mopar full size cars, 67 and up Pontiac and 68 and up full size GM cars….the wipers look like those on 69-70 full size Ford and Mercury models. The hood and fender tops make me say it’s a 69 or 70 Mercury Marquis or Monterey.
I have no idea but I’d really like a ride in it ! .
-Nate
Interesting you say that. Did I mention I also drove this car?
Remember ;
Whenever this thing was new , i was still riding in 1950’s and early 1960’s vehicles
I have never quite gotten used to modern cars , I still prefer riding in or driving older ones .
FWIW , my first thought was some variety of FoMoCo product sans hood ornament too .
Don’t spill the beans just yet ~ I’m digging all the responses .
I thought there were LHD Toyota Crows in the U.S. for MY 1967 ? .

-Nate
A 1967 full size (Ninety Eight?) Oldsmobile is the best I can think of.
72-75 Thunderbird or Lincoln Mk. Definitely FoMoCo
Toyota Crown?
Not likely; those were made only in RHD, and this car has LHD-pattern windshield wipers. There have been RHD cars with LH-sweep wipers, but not a lot of them.
Yeah, I’m not an expert on furrin’ cars, The “Oh what a feeling” line made me consider the only Toyota that sorta had fender blades, In reality it does look “Fordish” the “feeling” line may be a red herring.— ’68 Herring???
What the heck?
Some Crowns were available in LHD also, depending on the market. Like, I said we got the Crown in the US till the early 70’s… Hence LHD.
Also, it DOESN’T show what side the steering wheel is on, in the pic. 😉
Jason surely would not go out in a car that had been robbed of it’s hood ornament. That’s like parading around without pants.
Exposed, bright aluminum wipers say 60s or early 70s.
Coffin nose is too wide for an LTD. GM didn’t go in much for that knife edge styling at that time.
I’ll throw my two cents in with the people who say 69-70 big Merc, Marquis, Monterey or Marauder
Marquis usually had chrome band along the fender ridge. Monterey’s didn’t.
Marquis usually had chrome band along the fender ridge. Monterey’s didn’t.
I don’t have a 69 or 70 brochure, but I have a 72, which shows the Marquis Brougham having the bright molding along the top of the fenders, but the Marquis without the Brougham package does not have that molding.
Why do I see an early 70’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
1967 Olds Cutlass?
Lincoln Mark III
69/70 Mercury Marquis
’70s full size in cop/cab/cheapskate spec.
The dash and hood make me want to say 87-88 ford LTD crown Vic but the wipers…….
74 Lincoln town car?????
Definitely a full sized Ford product. They were the only ones to place the VIN tag on the lower part of the windshield. Everyone else placed them on the upper part of the dash.
I am jumping on the ’69 or ’70 Mercury bandwagon for all the reasons stated previously plus the dash in the photo can only be a Mercury.
Nice to have a photo that elicits a wide variety of guesses.
This has been pleasantly surprising.
Puzzled here…..sheet metal and wipers appear 1972-ish big FoMoCo, but dash looks decidedly newer.
1978 Thunderbird
Side edges are too sharp.
The exposed wipers are really throwing me, since the big FoMoCo stuff mostly had hidden wipers to my knowledge. But I’ll be damned if those lines aren’t FoMoCo.
Next guess, 1975-80 Ford Granada/ Mercury Monarch or 1977-80 Lincoln Versailles, missing it’s hood ornament?
If it’s a Toyota, it looks to be a 1978 Toyota Crown… They had the same fender lines.
We stopped getting the Crown in the US around 1972? Maybe?
It could be a JDM or Canadian import.
Reminds me of late sixties Mercury mont Clair.
Not a 80s Lincoln or late 70 s Lincoln or Ltd. I’m guessing mopar it’s huge and has a weird dash with the modern. Depression Starage area not gm sheetmetal or dash neither Ford or gm . I’m guessing a cheap new Yorker or nNewport mid 70s
Ford Granada or Dodge Diplomat
I don’t remember my Granada Being that big or having the rAised central hood area. Bet could be a distortion. I tretook a picture of a Lincoln and driver and hood looked big enough to land planes on
Granada had a hood just like that but it also had a hood ornament.
Granada-Whatever it is, it’s likely that it originally had hood ornament and it has been pinched.
1969-70 Cadillac full size?
Early 80s Plymouth Gran Fury?
The first thing that stood out for me was the VIN tag. You can see it in the lower left corner of the picture. AFAIK only Ford put a tag in that location.
I like my Saturn L, but I wish I could see the corners from the driver’s seat.
1970 Lincoln Continental
