This evocative shot of a ’67 Cutlass was posted by Perry Curtis. And it looks like a convertible too. This was shot in Seaview, WA, where salty air blowing in from the ocean can do ugly things. Is that tape/strap intended to keep it from falling apart?
Cohort Outtake: From (Iron) Dust To (Iron) Dust

Well, at least the light assemblies appear to be reusable. I assume they were made of some sort of pot metal.
Looking at it I thought it was similar to what my Father did on his ’76 Subaru DL when the hood “buckled” once when the latch failed and the wind blew open the hood…but he used “shock cords” between the front wheelwells to secure the ends of the shock cords…anyone who wanted to get inside the hood could, but we never did replace the hood…and it was maybe 2 years old when that happened.
Unless this is tape, I can’t figure out what is securing it to the car, since it doesn’t go to the wheelwells. A decade earlier my Dad had a ’65 F85 Wagon, which looked quite a bit like this (but in green instead of brown). Maybe the hood won’t stay down on this one, looks like the radiator core support may even be missing, so nothing to latch the hood to.
That’s the Handyman’s Secret Weapon: DUCT TAPE.
(With thanks to Steve Smith…”Red Green”)
Look closely and you will see a Cutlass nameplate on the forward section of the rear 1/4, and the mid body side trim. This indicates it is actually a 66. There is also a Cutlass nameplate on the front fender, which is correct for a 67 so, this appears to be a 66 with a 67 front end.
A sad thing indeed but that’s what salt does .
I grew up in New England and there were scads of 1920’s 1930’s and 1940’s cars just like this every where in the 1960’s .
Paper thin and beyond saving .

It never ceases to amaze me how some people allow a car – one which would have been worth a bit at that – to deteriorate like this. I bet the owner had more than one person ask about selling and the answer was always “no”; all this time the car rusted and rusted and rusted into nothing.

I think what we have here is an attempt to emulate the nose tape stripes from a TR250.
