It is still in business as Andy’s CLASSIC Auto Parts. He’s got quite a place, in between his boats on one end of the property and an old house on the other. He’s replaced the El Camino with a pickup truck out front. You can see the street view on Google Maps at 4715 Pioneer Way E, Tacoma Washington. Also known as Waller, WA and of course Puyallup, WA. You can also see a couple of gas pumps in front of the original commercial structure next to the house — a gas station built in 1958. It appears Andy just kept adding on over the years.
Did a little street view sleuthing myself and discovered that the El Camino and the truck are still there, or at least were as of earlier this year. They’ve been moved to the right side of the building; you can *barely* see the Elky within the brush that’s grown up around it along a fenceline and the truck is parked nearby. Neither one seems to have been touched in quite a few years (street view goes back to 2007 and at that time they were still in front of the building, though not in the same positions as in this photo).
Thought this was going to be related to a news story I saw on DW-News a few days ago: suppliers to VW were threatening to stop delivery of parts to new car factories at 2 locations in Germany. VW was threatening, in response, to confiscate the parts from the suppliers.
I didn’t see/hear whole story, but I believe I heard it that the suppliers were responding to rumors(?) of VW “strong-arming” them to price cuts in the wake of the diesel emissions fines and future court costs as the litigation drags on.
I’m guessing that maximum parking times are not enforced there. This almost begs for a Curbside Caption: “Honest officer, I was just leaving.”
Or “Chevy parts? Sorry, we no longer stock those.”
Is the business still in business ?

Just noticed the vehicle in front of the house is a rare Push Me Pull You, a design doomed from the start due to its lack of trunk space.
Out of curiosity, how is “Puyallup” pronounced? 🙂

Maybe that IS the inventory. They are merely having a sidewalk sale…
With a really great display rack. 🙂
I guess the Internet has made these old timey FLAPS obsolete ? .
I sure to miss working in them as well as using them to source unobtanium parts and Tech help .

RAN WHEN PARKED
Nice photograph indeed and reminds me of Virginia City, MT a bit.
Even all beat up, I can tell it’s a ’60 Elky!
Wherever it is, I want to live there.
You and me both. Beats AutoZone.

Wow, one of my dream vehicles gone to hell….a ’60 El Camino.
I had a chance to buy one when I got my ’60 sedan delivery, but i didn’t have the $…..

Here’s the best way to learn how to say Puyallup, the original “do the puyallup” fair ad.

ElCamino gone, but take a cut and paste sedan as compensation!

Andy had a sense of humor…and a lot of time on his hands between customers.
“Here’s my problem: the old car just doesn’t have the pickup it used to, but it is a lot quieter. Any ideas? New sparkplugs, maybe?”
