When I saw this image posted at the Cohort by Stacey Young, at first my eyes just took in the the old Continental and Ford pickup. Very nice, but not completely out of the ordinary. Then I saw Mt. Hood hulking in background. Wow! It must have been the lens she used to pop it up that dramatically. Still…But when I noticed the two hot air balloons, I knew that I’d been had. And she has titled this: Western Oregon Saturday Morning – slightly surreal digital art.
She posted a couple of other slightly less surreal photos too:
This one, titled “Early Morning Used Car Lot – SE Portland” caught my eye about as much as the other one: Wow! An Austin A40, with an early Chevy Vega coupe in the background. What a combo. Roger Carr profiled the A40 here. These were not that uncommon back in the early 60s, when Austin still had a decent presence here with passenger cars. But I haven’t seen one since LA back in the 70s.
The last one is an Audi B2 Coupe. Nice.
Cool shots! That’s one helluva fire in the fireplace, judging from the column of flame coming from the chimney. “Honey, turn that gas log down!”
That column of flame…..or light is turning night into day. If you look, you see the front of that house has dark/shadow around the edges and a porch light is on and visible.
With all the car-spotting I’ve done, I’ve never seen an A40 “in the metal”.
Beautiful pictures — makes me want to take off for Oregon right now.
My favorite is the final shot — combining two things that I love — old cars and old houses. However, I believe the Audi in the picture is a 1983-84 Coupe, rather than a Quattro Coupe, since there are no rear fender bulges or painted bumpers. As a former owner of an ’81 Coupe, it’s ingrained in me to look for fender bulges whenever I see a picture of one.
Quite right. She wrote “Quattro” and I didn’t bother to second guess it.
Great images; love the Audi one as well. Looks almost like selective color.
Yep, that last one is something else. Nice, Stacey.
The balloons are a bit much, but I still love all 3 photos.
Great shots, Love the little Austin Farina I owned a couple of those years ago, I added to the rarity of them now neither survived.
I can’t remember having ever seen any A40 Farinas in oz. Odd.
Lots of cars never made it to OZ you had the Morris Major and Austin Lancers instead.
They were around when I was a kid. But never all that common. Most folk would have bought Morris Majors or Austin Lancers – that Aussie four door thing again.
Unless you got the countryman version they were next to useless with the fixed rear window my second one was a Countryman, the first one had a souped up 1100 motor and went well but fell apart. The second had a good body and tired motor, couldnt seem to find a whole good car.
Apart from some at Austin club events/displays I’ve seen one stripped out and hotted up as a hillclimb racer, and I’m fairly sure at least one in regular road use years ago.
Right after the Vega, it was the Big Wheel that caught my attention. Great mashups!
Great photos especially the top one! Sometimes I wish Mount Hood was much taller and larger in diameter, but it is still beautiful as is.
First pic made me notice something … the ’61 Lincoln copied the ’60 F100. The pickup got there first.
I’d love to see the rest of the house behind the Audi. Looks like the Ultimate Bungalow.
I’m not sure I’ve seen an A40 since the ’60’s. But Vegas and Audi Coupes are hardly more numerous on the roads now, at least in the US. The Ford pickup and Continental are commonplace by contrast.
I don’t interpret an image of a Continental left sitting in a front yard long enough to get a thick coating of that unique Oregon Car Moss as depicting anything “awesome,” but to each his own.
Stellar artistry, Stacy – thank you for sharing it with us!
You should get your eyes checked. That is so obviously photoshop, not even well done. The second and third are more tasteful, but if any of you mistook the first for real, even for a second, get off the road!
Thanks for posting my pics and thanks for all the comments everyone. The top one was very experimental when I was just starting to try working with my photos in Photoshop. Haha, just having fun with it.
Here’s my site if you want to explore more of my artwork. Thanks!

I like these – I’d have the Continental, and the Audi for rainy days.
Like a lot of good photos, they may look easy but try doing it yourself and you’ll find it isn’t.
Thanks Paul, Stacy.
Love it. I want to have my morning coffee standing in the foreground of the first shot.
Great pics. its amazing what results you get from winter low light .
As much as you guys liked my car art, I’m apparently no longer allowed to post any pictures in the comments. Thanks a lot.
You can, but you have to reduce them in size. We can’t accept huge images and big files. Reduce them to about 1200 pixels in width and they should attach just fine.
