If you’re wondering where the inspiration came for that green and pink BMW Z4 in the previous post, look no further. The Japanese venerate the flowering trees of spring, and here these flowering plums have scattered their fairy dust all over this old GMC pickup.
And it’s not just the GMC; all down the street there’s a carpet of pink. These trees in prunus family are very popular in the Pacific Northwest, and British Columbia, in this case.

Dad bought our ’64 GMC p/u around 1971. My older brother drove it until he bought his ’68 Torino GT, and then I drove it as a junior/senior in HS. First day of school, 1976, I’m cruising past the school at lunchtime and a hotty walking across the road caught my attention just in time for the ’67 Chevelle 4 door in front of me to slam on the brakes. I did the same but tapped the Chevy’s bumper at about 8 MPH. I broke 2 headlights and dented the painted headlight bezel/grill bar, and totaled ($400) the Chevelle. After avoiding what I knew was going to be the death-penalty from Dad, we replaced those GMC parts with chrome versions from a junkyard which dressed up the Battleship Grey-Ghost a bit. Decades later we lost ownership of the Jimmy in a colossal family screw-up, and every time I see one of these I wonder if it could be ours. Thanks for the memories, Paul.
