You could call it a Super Nova for surviving. The black rocker panels are a good choice the factory should have offered. Perhaps the owner has eye problems or a ticket-wish.
Back in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s, we called that color “chickensh__ Yellow”. I had a few friends who had cars that color including my best friend. I never cared for that color.
I miss my Dad’s 68 Nova 4 door, 230 w/3 on the tree, teal color (just nostalgia, I’m sure the car was pretty forgettable).
I owned a ‘68 with a 307, 4 speed and a bench seat, from Fall of ‘72 to early Summer of ‘74. It served me well.
I owned a 68 NOVA til MY buddy totaled it! Great car, 400V8 400 AUTO& 12 bolt rear end.It would fly!!! RED and BLACK vinyl roof, sharp as all get out! Wish I had it now.
I love it if only because the owner made a wheel choice other than the Chevy rally wheels that adorn virtually every other Chevrolet built between 1955 and 1980.
Beyond this, the 1968-72 Nova coupe was a really good looking car.
Now I am trying to ID those wheels and am failing miserably.
JP, these are Magnum 500 wheels. They were the standard wheel on the 1969 and 1970 Chevelle SS. I think they are the best looking styled steel wheel ever offered. My father’s 1970 and 1972 Cutlass Supreme had them. Upon closer inspection these look to have the Oldsmobile Rocket emblem on the center caps. Maybe they are off of a Cutlass. I also like this car because all 1968 to 1972 2 door Novas were posts. I think the 2 door post is a very underappreciated body style.
Though I much prefer 1975 vintage Nova styling, I have warmed up to these.
The lower fender and rocker panel paint, actually adds authentic, in some ways. As it is very reminiscent of the do-it-yourself paint jobs, some Rust Belt owners gave to their cars back then. To mask homemade rust repairs.
Not quite CC effect… A couple days ago a nice unrestored ’62 Chevy II drove past my house, humming along calmly in -4 degrees.
The ‘72 Nova was one of best cars I have owned (307 3-speed on the floor).
Personally, I can’t abide that bright yellow. Mine was gold (with ‘70’s obligatory black vinyl top).
Close…
I really liked, still do, the look of the “68”- “72” models. One could still get a “convertible”, “Chevelle/Malibu” during those years though. At the time, made me like them more.
Remember a “68” yellow convert on a used car lot, near the high school. Always looked “longingly” at it when we rode by.
My first new car was a Cream Yellow1972 Nova with a 350. It was a lot of fun for me, but I had to sell it in 1980. Still miss it.
My first brand new car was a ’72 two dr Nova in Midnight Bronze metallic. 307/3 on the tree. I still have it.
Nice .
Yellow is one of those odd colors that you’d normally never buy but after you stumble into a too good to pass up deal it grows on you .
I still have never kept any yellow cars/trucks more than a few years .
