In recent weeks I’ve been sharing a number of images uploaded by Hyperpack at the Cohort. Most have been Chrysler products belonging to a family collection, but a new series of images with finds from the countryside has now appeared. All covered in light snow. It’s quite the winter collection.
It’s a bit hard to tell what we got here, what with all that wrapping around the car. One can barely make out a ‘500’ badge in the rear fender from underneath that cover. The hubcaps and rocker panels dissuade the notion that this is a mere Custom. So I’m guessing it is Galaxie 500; with a hardtop body?
If you want the history and background on these coke-bottle Fords, feel free to explore the links below. For the time being, let’s leave this old Ford sitting quietly, ready to spend another winter in the open.

I hate seeing them parked out side like this .

At least it’s covered to keep water out of some of the hidden rust prone areas. When all else fails, I do the same with some of my fleet.
This year was a ruster too. Ford had real floor pan problems with rust in 1968
There is a lot of that around here.
This particular neighbor lives on a mildly busy local two-lane road(call it a county road if you like) right at a traffic light. I have seen other cool old Blue Oval and GM Products floating around the yard when I pass by there, Now I snap a few pictures to share with the crowd.
Here is a Ford Tempo GL that is also at the same property.
It remind me a bit of the one featured in the Timelords/KLF clip “Doctorin’ the Tardis”.

Still, wasn’t once an article showing a different design for the 1968 Galaxie/LTD where Ford would keep the stacked headlights for one more year?
Lime gold metallic! Without this color, Ford would probably have sold 1/3 fewer vehicles in 1967-69. I somehow wound up owning two of them.
Apparently kept well and drive carefully. at the distance of the shots, it looks like that aluminum grille is unbent. very few 68 Galaxies with such avoided that.
My first car circa 1984. Was Grand Dad’s for many years growing up. 390 2Bbl 4 door hardtop. Yellow with black vinyl top and black vinyl interior. Plenty fast for a dumb 16 yr old, disk brakes were quick to lock.
Drove it for about a year, put many dings in it. Learned a lot about driving, life, love, freedom, trust, and responsibility in this car. Eventually I let it overheat one too many times. Sold it on for $200 and bought my brother’s 76 Plymouth Arrow.
Saw it parked on the side of the road two towns over several years later. Not sure it was a runner at that time.
