For those of you the other day who were debating whether the ’41 Buick Roadmaster or a comparable Packard were the best looking cars of the time, how about a mashup of both? This is straight out of one of my more vivid and colorful dreams…
John Lloyd says he first shot this some 40 years ago,as seen here in a parade in Lancaster, PA in about 1980.
Here it is from the side. Seems too unusual of a vehicle to be sitting outside moldering away…
That does it. I’m taking the pledge. Couldn’t just see a pink elephant or some more normal hallucination. Instead I’m having visions of some weird classic car mating ritual. If I start hearing the theme from the Twilight Zone, I’m done for.
What’s that dog doing on the hood? lol
Mack bulldog pissing on a fire hydrant?
It is bad that it sits and deteriorates, but then again, who do you try to sell it to? It’s not like there is a big market for a Grand High Exalted Mystic Roadmaster.
As mashups go, this one went together pretty well.
This “Buickard” started life as a Flxible Buick hearse or ambulance. 1930’s & 1940’s Flxible Buick professional cars are easy to identify by the tall section height in the lower body which they added compared to the standard production Buicks. Once such cars are replaced in service, their resale value is practically nil, it was likely donated to the Shriners.
I think its more of a Packick with emphasis on the ick.
Interesting. I wonder if it was converted to a flower car first, then later donated and packardized?
Maybe even one of the fairly rare “flower cars” that were open at the back. This 1941 Flxible Cadillac is pretty close in the bodywork, and I suspect that Flxible was able to adapt it to the more modern body.
It’s a pisser all right!
I could be mistaken, but it appears that a lot of the fraternal type groups don’t seem to have as large a presence as they once did (parades/etc.) The seeming decline of such organizations as the members age out, and are not replaced by younger members, and thus the props of past festivities go into decline as well. A well established VFW in my area closed down some years ago; bowling has declined as well as lanes have shut down. As J.P. stated “who do you try to sell this to?”
I should hate this car but I don’t. Could this have inspired Stephen King to write “From A Buick 8”?
Lancaster, PA is no very far from me. I’m curious where it’s located, and if the owner has any plans for the vehicle?
Now, let’s see if someone will do a “Packoln” or a “Linckard” by turning in reality a rendering of Dick Teague where he imagined a 1956-57 Lincoln as a Packard but who will volonteer to give his 1956-57 Lincoln to turn it into a Packard? 😉 https://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/forum/your-studebaker-forum/general-studebaker-specific-discussion/12586-is-it-a-rumor?12257-Is-it-a-rumor=&viewfull=1#post257532
A STRANGE one, to say the least.
I remember when gas stations would convert Buicks like this for service cars, not the front mashup but the open bed with rails .
I imagine it has a straight eight engine and Dyna-Squish tranny .
I hope someone saves this thing .
