This one find by Mike Hayes at the Cohort is quite the throwback machine. The color theme, the camper and the accessories, all seem period-correct from the ’80s cocoon it came out of.
Not that this S-10 is completely perfect. The slightly sun-faded paint is a visible sign of the passage of time. But other than that, it all seems to be there.
For those wondering, the badge under the driver’s side headlight lets everyone know that this one carries a 2.8L V6 engine. In those early 1980s days, that translated into 110HP and 145 pound-feet of torque. Enough to carry 1,625 pounds of weight and tow up to 5,000 pounds.
These early S-10s have gotten their share of love and critique here at CC, with the related Blazer earning a Deadly Sin award. But well, before these ran on too long and got stale, they were at least sharp-looking little trucks. A point this fancy two-tone makes all too clear.

I’m leaning towards a 1984-85 because those were the years they put the V6 engine design underneath the headlights and this particular V6 was carb’d.
Wow. For me, it is the fact the owner has retained whitewall tires, that makes it appear a genuine timepiece. Whitewalls on pickups and SUVs circa 1983-1984, were still quite common. Making this example, remarkably original appearing. Like I’m looking at a pic from November 1983.
I wish I’d taken a close up shot of one of the tires, for the date codes. Those are obviously some pretty old tires!
Yes, the tires look ancient. I’ve noticed in the past, with old whitewalls, environmental exposure will cause the white to almost look bleached. With white leaching into the black sidewall. As in the front two tires.
The tires don’t look to old I didn’t see any cracks on the tires and it appears to look like that someone tried to paint the white walls
Just like a regular Chevy pickup, only smaller. At first I thought it was a regular one.
Isn’t this what people have been screaming for for years now? The common-sense truck.
For those who happen upon this page, which I’m VERY surprised at seeing, I am now the owner of this truck and am bringing it back to life after many years of hiatus.
