Send some of that precip out here to Northern California. Although the nebulous “They” on the nightly news have predicted rain before this, I’d have gotten wetter by spitting into the wind! Maybe today…
Surely that’s the prettiest generation of pick up truck ever, and a bit of a collectible classic accordingly. One pet peeve for me is the aesthetic disaster the modern pick up truck has become. Gauche, overstyled boldness which, I suspect, marketers designed to bolster the supposed insecurity of the owners. Do people feel better driving something styled like a train pretending to be a bulldozer?
I’m glad I’m not the only one to think this. This generation, the GMT400, and the subsequent GMT800 (at least the early ones) are both elegant and straightforward. I think both qualify as some of the best styling work GM has ever done.
We have had three GMT400 trucks in the family. All were the base trim with glass sealed beam headlights, crank windows and no carpets. Still have the 2000 K2500 pickup and it is a workhorse, never complains.
I’m not so sure about the whole insecurity thing, the truck owners I know seem to simply enjoy them. But I still am subjectively certain that the styling has gone awry, particularly for GM.
I agree, I don’t think outrageous styling is selling the trucks, people want trucks because they’re trucks. I squarely blame the designers and marketers, we are living in a perpetual 1958

But no salt, please. We don’t need the rust!
Snow in mountains of California, North and South. No salt, chain requirement or 4×4, which is fine with me.
Three generations of F-bodies. That is quite a catch right there..plus a Buick Reatta.

agreed, particularly the new GM HD trucks, they are hideous

So many insecure men out there who need a bro-dozer to give them a sense of value and self-worth.

Agreed completely. I love, love love, GMT400s (although I own a GMT800 myself). And GM REALLY dove off the deep end on the latest trucks.
As a child of the early 80s, and a GM fan, this would be almost a perfect garage. Throw in a Grand National and a 98 Regency.
I’m wondering what belongs in the empty space next to the Vette. Any guesses?
