The 1966 is my least favorite Barracuda, and it’s all because it’s the one that looks the most like a Valiant. If the 1966 Valiant front end hadn’t been so blocky, it might not have been so bad (at least the ’64-’65 Barracuda had grille turn signals that looked like foglights).
I mean, c’mon, couldn’t Chrysler have spent a few pennies for a unique Barracuda grille, maybe even one with quad headlights? The only difference between the 1966 Valiant and Barracuda grille is the round medallion in the center where one has a fish and the other the Valiant emblem.
Mom had one of these. The 273 was an underappreciated engine. What I don’t understand is why Plymouth did so little to distinguish it from a valiant with the front end but used a very different dash.
I remember that car fondly, and the back end made a better bed than a rambler and never raised a father’s suspicions. đ
Does that back window still hold the record as the biggest single piece of auto glass? How much does it weigh? It seems to have been quite durable, at least there is no folklore of collapsing or cracking.
I’ve never seen that glass repurposed as anything else nor have I ever seen a Barracuda without it; it really is the whole essence of the model.
Are replacements available?
A good design except for the wheel openings. Too small. A bit bigger would have looked fantastic.
Haha, this reminds me of the two 40s Buick convertibles I caught at a gas station. I guess fish tend to travel in schools. đ
I like them, too. I know where there is a gold ’65 that has been sitting in the same spot for 30 years. I offered to buy it 25 years ago. No dice.
Love it!
a/c should have been standard

What gets me is there is more style continuity with the 64/65 front end and the 67s, the blunt blocky(ugly IMO) 66 front end doesnât fit at all

Check out the rear window on the Pegaso Z-102 CĂșpula.

The place where I got that shot is a small repair shop, which certainly looks as if it’s on the site of a former gas station.
Unpopular opinion – Cragar SS wheels look best with whitewalls. No excepton here, they make the gold one pop.
How could anyone not like 1966 Barracudas?
