Canadiancatgreen has uploaded to the Cohort another trove of shots from his many junkyard visits in the Great White North. There’s a number of evocative ones, but let’s start with this lone Lark and some contrasting neighbors.
I love this ’64 Chevy shorty; it’s what I always wanted to do to a big American car in the early 70s, to get rid of all that useless overhang. Much better now.
For a quick second I thought that ’64 was a Chevy II!
It looks like a ’64 Malibu prototype.
That’s a sad Lark all right, and do I see a lead repair near the back edge of the front fender where they all rust?
I don’t see any plates but assume this is in Alberta, since this is what Ontario junk yards looked like in the 1980’s
I believe these are all in Edmonton which always seems to have a large proportion of old cars.
The Lark pretty much anticipated the Chevy shorty, at least initially. Studebaker patched in a 4″ wheelbase stretch and a longer trunk by 1962; the ’63 here in some ways is peak Lark with the modernized cowl and greenhouse, new dash, and R-series engines. The ’64 had narrower rear door uppers and a smaller rear window to fatten up the C pillar, and added a half foot of front overhang bringing the overall length within 5 inches of how it started out in 1953.
I like that AMC Pacer peeking out the corner of the Lark pic.
I am really liking that Javelin!
Last year, 1980 Aspen or Volare, with the mid-level Custom trim package. Identified by the chrome wheel arch moldings.
Anyone else ever run daydream mind-movies about having a secret-superpower ability to renew old cars by power of thought (or maybe a Jedi handwave)…
…and visiting a wrecking yard?
Not yet Daniel, but I probably will now!
Always hate to see cars waiting to be picked apart or crushed! The black MERCURY with breeze way roof is probably one of a very few still surviving. Hope someone rescues this one!
The 67 Mercury fastback is rad. More overhang the merrier, I say!
As much as I dislike seeing interesting vehicles in junkyards, I am well pleased to see these appear to be well harvested .
Interesting IHC ‘R’ series truck .
