This Cohort shot is a bit different, as it’s a composite of two posted by two different posters: Roshake 77 (top) and Corey Behrens (bottom). But both of them the the BX’ tendency to droop its butt when parked for any length of time.
Cohort Pic(k)s of the Day: Which Citroen BX Is Drooping Its Butt More?
– Posted on August 24, 2021
I think both butts are dropped down the same. It’s an optical illusion because the blue on is parked up on a sidewalk and the right front tire is dropped down more and shows more wheel well. Let’s call it “sitting on it’s haunches.”
Agree. The right front corner of the rear bumper fascia in relation to the lug nuts looks pretty close.
I wonder what prompted Citroen to abandon their lovely convex curves for this pile of straight lines and planes. They were so far ahead they couldn’t figure out how to go further?
Seems the styling, by Gandini, was developed from that used on the Reliant (of Robin and GTE fame) TW11 protoype, via the Volvo Tundra concept.

The change from years designated 197x to years designated 198x.
Owned by Peugeot when this car was released the platform is shared with the Peugeot 405, engines shared too so there was a 16 valve version of this car, fast road cars because theres no need to slow for curves just steer and hold your foot down, you’ll run out of nerve before the car runs out of ability.
No worries —
Bring back fender skirts, whitewalls & full wheel covers!
They appear to be sitting at the same height, once the fluid goes away back to the reservoir theres nothing to hold them off the bump stops. The wheelcovers bolt on, they are held on by the wheel bolts no amount of hard cornering will dislodge them, and the passive rear steer setup makes them handle better than anything else of the era.
CC effect: parked the Peug’ next to a red BX at the supermarket last week, because, well, they’re basically cousins and the French should stick together. Have seen the BX around town, it’s well loved, no sign of butt droopery while it was parked.
Aaah. The Citroen B(utto)X. Quel fromage.
Eventually, depending on the amount of internal leakage of the hydraulic system, all hydropneumatic Citroëns will drop down all the way to the bump stops, front and back.
The speed with which this happens is different for every car. Some “fresh” cars could remain on their legs until the next morning when parked, while others had their butt firmly on the ground within the hour. The Xantia was the first Citroën model equipped with a so called “anti-sink sphere” that kept the car from lowering when not in use.
