It almost happened to the ’62 Plymouth. (CC here) Virgil Exner’s studio did a number of experiments with asymmetry. I doubt whether this influenced Engel’s later Imperial.
Good one, forgot about the boattail Riv. The only other car I thought of was the 1980s Tercel 4WD wagon (which is why I wrote “sedan” rather than “car”). The Tercel had many SUV-inspired design cues including the asymmetric tag. That’s a common feature on SUVs such as the Land Rover Discovery and several others that have side-opening rear doors and/or rear-mounted spare tires.
That Buick look really nice considering it has been off the road for 64 years, going by the license plate. I would suspect the Dynaflow gave out, so they parked it in the garage or barn.
While I prefer the Chrysler product extremes, I wouldn’t kick any of them out of my driveway.
My very first car was a 1950 Buick just like the one pictured here. My Grandma Babe left it to me when she died in 1974. Mine was a three-holer Special, red with white top, and Dynaflow. Gotta love those straight-8s!
The jacked-up Ford looks out of place among the other classics – otherwise a nice assortment. I like the old Imperial coupe, but I’d take any one of them for a spin.
That looks like a Route 66 sort of thing.
Like that Dart 🙂
Good, so you won’t feel bad if I adopt that 65 Crown Coupe.
Amen to that ! My brother had that Imperial, black with white plush leather interior.
“Dart”? Really?
65 Valiant
Philomath? Can’t get there from here.
I just now noticed that weird off-center license plate on the Imperial. Can’t think of another ’60s or later sedan that has one.

The boattail Rivieras did, at least for the first two years.
Prior to the ‘73s there was a point at the center of the rear bumper, which would’ve made it difficult to mount a license plate in the middle.

Super cute 65 Valiant!
1971-72 Buick Riviera, the plate for the boattail was off center. But not for 1973.
I thought that Imperial looked better as a sedan, a chauffeur driven one.
MY 1966

I don’t recall 63 Chevy trucks wearing red eyeliner.

That Imperial looks ready for STANCE NATION.
