Another variation of the CC Effect™: Not more than an hour and a half ago, we drove by the lot where the legendary Coronoroc has been sitting for well over a decade; I noticed that it was still there but many of the other cars it shared the lot with are now gone. Uh oh.
And then I did something that I almost never do: went on Craigslist, to check on my ad for the Tracker and see what else was for sale, and ran into this ad for the CoronoroC. It’s now or never folks; for $6,700 you can own a legendary machine if there ever was one.
Here’s the text for the ad, which suggests that it’s not quite as well equipped as I had somehow convinced myself that it was, with dual 440 Magnum V8s, each powering one axle. Did my imagination get a bit carried away?
1974 Dodge polara double ended cop car. Car has a 318 was Sitting for a few years. But I hooked it up to fresh fuel, and it fired right up and runs good.
Brakes have pressure, trans is good, automatic with b&m shifter. It does need ignition sticks. But can fire it right up for you. Rumor has it that graveyard cars built it. Also rumored to be a in a james garner film. It was my father’s that recently passed.
I have clean title it’s a great advertisement piece. $6700 pretty firm on price. Please serious inquiries only. I’m busy and don’t like to Waste eachothers time Thanks. Will need tlc and has been sitting for a while. Needs basic things to be road worthy. And checked out.
It appears that my story on the legendary Coronoroc has now officially been exposed to be a work of fiction. That’s ok; it’s still worth reading if you got ten minutes to waste:
Curbside Classic: CoronoroC – Bi-Directional, Dual 440 Powered 1973 Dodge Coronet Police Pursuit
What would be ironic Paul is that if its owner has read your Curbside Fiction piece. It was clearly one of the funniest things ever posted on this site.
IIRC, it was an April Fool’s post, was it not? Edit: Upon further review, I see that it was an April 1 post. Good stuff.
I wonder if this is one of several similar vintage cop cars made for a Disney movie, they were cut in half and another was two cars welded together they appeared to be driven through a tight squeeze….
I vividly remember them in the parking lot of a long defunct junkyard on Valley Blvd. near the i-605 .

If (and it’s a big “if”) the job was done well, I think the CoronoroC is priced pretty fairly.
(So is the Tracker. I’d be tempted if it was a stick. Then again, if it was a stick, you’d probably keep it.)
Should I go or should I stay?
It’s got to be for real as the Craigslist ad has the patented Craigslist inscrutable yet pissed-off grammar:
You have a Tracker for sale, they have a Coronoroc. Perhaps a trade could be put together. 🙂
As a practical matter, I can’t imagine you’d be allowed to drive this on public streets, since it doesn’t have any taillights. Unless the builder replaced one set of headlights with taillights; it’s hard to tell in the photos.
It wouldn’t be hard to fix the lighting by putting stop/tail/turn/reverse lights in place of one set of headlamps and replacing one set of amber side markers by red ones.
This could be fun at the donut shop drive thru. Front seat cop takes his order and pulls up two feet so that back seat cop facing backwards can take his. Back seat cop asks donut shop employee if they’ve seen a police car driving backwards through their drive thru window?
Man, do I ever hate those tiny little air cleaners. They say Susquehanna to me…
I hate ’em, too, but…Susquehanna? I don’t get it.
You ever meet anyone that lives on the Susquehanna? Port Deposit ring a bell?
»blink blink«
I see you using English words, but…!
Those tiny air cleaners also say ‘I know nothing about engines and don’t care if my ride runs poorly as long as it looks !COOL! to mouth breathers’…..

Assuming it’s real, I love it. ’74 so it’s smog exempt even here in Calif. True, it would be better with a 440, but WTH, it’s a show car, not a driver. Not saying it’s overpriced, except to me, but if the decimal point on the price was one to the left I might be tempted. Might.
I’m getting flashbacks to the Red Green Show. And it looks very real to the point I can’t tell.
Lemme underline that link. The Red Green Show.
The sad thing is : I can’t watch it because our super cheap, er, _thrifty_ Spectrum cable doesn’t carry it .
It’s not easy to make being stupid look like so much fun ! .
