The most photogenic finds at any truck show are complete combinations with an impressive load. And when that load says Cat, you know its carrier means business.
What a mighty piece of equipment, a Caterpillar 745 articulated dump truck. Grimy, even better! According to its specifications, the truck weighs 32,943 kg (72,627 lbs). After a proper cleaning, I assume.
The Cat’s cradle is a 2020 Nooteboom Euro-59-03(P) lowboy trailer with a registered payload capacity of 38,200 kg, so no sweat.
If brute power is required, you call one of the Vikings. They are the only ones offering turnkey, on-highway trucks and tractors with (way) more than 650 hp. Today, the number of the beast is 730.
The 2015 Scania R730 V8 is a prime example of a European heavy-haulage tractor with an 8×4 drivetrain.
The total weight of the dump truck and the lowboy trailer is around 54 tons (119,000 lbs). A relaxed job for this Scania, I bet it’s perfectly capable of pulling three times that tonnage.
The same tractor with a Nooteboom 2-bed-4 lowboy trailer, as pictured on Van den Heuvel’s website.
Another Caterpillar and as clean as an unused whistle, a D6T XL dozer with ripper.
Neatly parked on a 2019 Faymonville semi-trailer with wheel wells, bridged to transport the tracked machine.
The Faymonville is coupled to a 2016 Scania R730 V8 6×4 tractor.
In a next episode, some more powerhouses from the land of 100,000 lakes. Give or take a lake.
Cool stuff! Thanks
As always Johannes, outstanding photographs, and technical info! Very cool you locate so much impressive industrial equipment, and the trucks hauling them.
I live near the 401 Freeway in Ontario, one of the busiest highways in North America, and don’t often have an opportunity to nearly see so much heavy duty equipment like this on the move.
Remarkable as 100,000 lakes sounds, my province has 250,000 lakes, and apparently 1/5 of the world’s fresh water supply!
Thanks Daniel. That’s one major advantage of living in a small country: impressive equipment and ditto trucks are never far away. It took around 50 minutes to get there, the walk from my parked car to the place to be included…
I’m a little surprised to see a Caterpillar 6 wheel rock truck. Iwould have expected a Volvo BW since they are both more local and invented them.
Generally, articulated dump trucks are not standard equipment among the earth movers here. For serious off-road work, they prefer a heavy AWD farm tractor, towing a dump trailer. Like the Beco below, with a payload capacity of 36 metric tons (the biggest the company offers).
Something about a brand new Cat that hasn’t got dirty yet!
I think Johannes is slowly revealing to us why a third of the Netherlands is below sea level – it’s sinking beneath a flotilla of gigantic trucks. They seem to be blocking his path every time he leaves home. That’s a world exclusive, btw, and you read it right here on CC.
Lord knows what CC’s the ancient Israelites were using in the Dead Sea area back in the day, but I guess they must’ve been even heavier.
You may have a point there. I’ll contact Rijkswaterstaat right away!
