My call for childhood pictures of yourselves with cars has already yielded several submissions. I’ll keep running one per day as long as they come in. Feel free to keep it short, or tell us a little about yourself, then or now.
This one is from Steve Walton, who kept it real short: “Three year old me in front of Mom’s 220 S“. Who was it around here who said a while back that Americans in the heartland weren’t buying Mercedes before the late seventies or early eighties?

Great picture that reminds me of a classic Lincoln ad from the early 1960s.
What a great ad! Sadly, when I was old enough to drive, the Lincoln Continental had turned into this, and just couldn’t snag a spot on my automotive lust list.
By the time I got my license, the big Benz was an uber-luxury hit in the Louisiana bayou, so the “someday” sedan of my teenage dreams would have been this. Twice the price of the Continental, but more than twice the car.
Agreed – those of us of that age group got swindled by a terrible bait and switch by Lincoln.
Now you have me picturing that Lincoln (the green one) redone as a late-70s high school hot rod…
Carmine’s response to this should be good.
I’m sure there probably was a synagogue in Texas somewhere too, still doesn’t make it exactly “common”
L’chaim!
Texas does not equal Heartland.
It’s a republic unto its own? 🙂
Great picture
What a great picture, as if that spot between the headlight and the radiator grille was custom-made for Little Steve. And he’s looking as serious as the Mercedes.
You’d look pretty serious too, if promoted to “bumper guard” (with no seat belt.) 😉
Or his mom just read him the paperback “The best jokes of Germany’s finest stand-up comedians” that came with the Merc.
Pretty much the perfect “kid picture.” The way he fits in between the grill and the headlights just plain works.
I saw very few Mercedes as a kid growing up in 60s Britain, they were very expensive and there was still a lot of anti German feeling.Dad’s elder brother(a veteran of Arctic convoys) surprised us all by buying a Beetle.
5,000 CC points to anyone (besides Steve) who can ID the vehicle to the right of the Mercedes.
