I couldn’t help but notice this sign in the back seat of a Festiva parked next to me. And when I looked at the other photos in this file, I realized there was both an Explorer and another CC in the shots. The CC Effect works in the digital world as well as the old-fashioned visual one.
There’s the Fiesta as well as another Explorer. Now what’s that in the foreground? Hmmm….
Oldsmobile in the foreground?
That’s what I was thinking. Something along the lines of a ’72 Ninety-Eight.
I recognized that Festiva L instantly, having owned one for two and a half years. Mine was an ’88, and I don’t think it had three-point harnesses in the backseat. It was a pretty well designed car, and I’d prefer one to anything Kia or Ford offers today. The dealer experience still sets the bar for the worst I’ve experienced though.
I had an LX. Absolutely wonderful little car, other than the (I swear they were) bakelite Yokohama tyres it came equipped with. Absolutely miserable in the wet, I lost the car on a couple of occasions (on straights) when the tyres suddenly lost grip.
You haven’t lived until you’ve hauled a reenactment regiment’s worth of 16 foot pikes on the roof of a Festiva. Traffic treats you with a lot more respect.
The L came on 145R12 versions of the 165/70SR12 Yokohamas on the LX. I went off a wet curve within a week of getting the car while trying to avoid someone that changed their mind about making a left turn and swerved back into my lane. I got 3,500 miles out of the front tires and about 6,500 miles out of the back ones. Then I changed to 155SR12 Pirelli P4s that got so hot that they chunked. Continental CS21s were the way to go.
If so, does that mean Sam Raimi is in town?
Hah, I hope so. Sylvia Ganush, not so much.
I like that early ’90s Accord coupe. Haven’t seen a 2-door from that generation in quite some time.
The 90’s Exploder er ah Explorer are all but extinct in Upstate, NY. The yellow car looks like a mid 70’s Delta 88.
What a great sign ! .

Bryce is not the only one who mixes up the Ford Fiesta and Ford Festiva. 🙂
The yellow car in the foreground has already been mostly correctly identified, but I’ll make it more specific: 1971 – 1973 Oldsmobile 98. The fender top windsplits identify it as a 98, and the lack of a stand up hood ornament makes it a pre 1974.
an adults at play sign in the back seat with a large roll of paper towel. gross.
Small adults (or at least very flexible ones…)
Reminds me of the running gag in the movie Mallrats about the back seat of a Volkswagen.
I see at least 4 cars in the lot I’d shoot. Cool grouping 🙂 I dig the Ford truck most though. Unibody, or is it a later one?
Dad had 2 of them and they both got wrecked at my hands. First one was a t-bone at 35mph right behind my door and second one got rear ended at a red light by a drunk going 65 mph. Walked out of both, but second one requiring an ambulance trip. Really tough little cars and with the 5 speed, was an awesome lil highway cruiser……except when a semi truck was around then it would shake in the wind
None of those vehicles are common or exist in the Southern Tier anymore which makes me glad I moved over here.
I’ll just leave this here
Yikes, what a sea of dull gray plastic that back seat is!
