Paul’s post yesterday on the Dodge RV reminded me of this 1974 Valiant ute that Bryce posted to the Cohort a while ago. Since today’s CC is an HD Holden, how about another find from New Zealand?
These Aussie Valiants are pretty cool, especially the utes, but doesn’t that slide-in camper look a little too big for it? Some bigger tires might help, but I wouldn’t want to drive this at speed on the highway. Wind shear, anyone?
Thanks for another neat find Bryce.
It kinda reminds me of something the dad in the movie “The Castle” would have brought home if they didn’t have their cottage in the country.
Great movie btw – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118826/

I watched “The Castle” for the first time this spring – great movie.
“How much was he asking? He’s dreaming!”
“he’s dreaming” has become a catchphrase between my son and I, usually uttered in a really bad attempt at an Australian accent.

Better leave the windows open in the camper so at least some of the crosswind will blow right through!
Surprisingly, you can still buy slide-in campers that are as badly proportioned. Followed one on the way to taupo recently, that had a pretty small Nissan/Toyota/Isuzu ute with a huge camper on the back. The driver was having a torrid time – clearly quite unstable and slowed to a crawl on the hills. Even in my 1992 2.0 diesel Lite-Ace full of people I was able to blow past him. Must be a kiwi thing.
Wow my pics are popular today,People get scared by a bit of sway but the chances of rolling are fairly remote. The owner of this holidays in Taupo and the ute is in Napier I saw this then noticed a rusty 61 Minx hiding in the undergrowth behind it which I bought for parts he has quite a collection in the shed on this site.
If it didn’t say it was a Valiant in the text, I would have guessed it was a Holden, the front has tons of 1971-72 Chevelle DNA in it.
They sold these utes (in Australia at least, I can’t speak for NZ) as both Chryslers and Dodges, the latter being a cheaper model
It reminds me of a bear riding a tricycle at the circus…
