Since we have Furies on the brain, here’s the ’69 that I wrote up here, heading up a whole block of Curbside Classics. A closer look:
From the front, once we get past that big Plymouth. But that still makes the far end a bit of a stretch.
Here you go…
Another example of the common sense car owners of the rust-free west…if it ain’t broke…
Here’s my question: How on earth do the Eugene new car dealers stay in business?
What a difference no road salt makes!
I’m seriously tempted to move west…
Good story behind that Fury. My equivalent trip was a college trip with 5 in my 17 year old but very clean 1972 Pontiac Grand Ville 455 4 door hardtop. Across Nebraska no less, to a ski trip in Colorado. 5 of us in the Grand Ville, 3 more in an OmniRizon 4 door. The Grand Ville got to pick up all the rental skis, and handled the mountains well, albeit at about 8 mpg. The OmniRizon damn near needed a tow from the Pontiac. We had girls, wine, and beer and lived for a few days like several income classes above us. Great trip.
Another reminder why I like the 69 Fury so much. Funny, thinking about it, the fairly blocky 69 was the look that was becoming more popular by 1972-73.
Good point. It’s as if Plymouth was holding back a bit with the new design; warming us up for the full fuselage future.
My uncle owned a few Mopars over the years – he had a Suburban wagon of close vintage.
I like how the big Plymouth asserts its dominance over the lesser vehicles in the first photo. It is has one of the most serious facial expressions I’ve ever seen on a vehicle.
“Do not tamper with me, they call me Fury for a reason”.
Interesting. I don’t agree it looks dominant, quite the opposite…like an outcast.
Also, I always thought the face was wide eyed and naive and not “furious” at all.
Well, I don’t see any Fuselage Delta 88 relation either. Maybe I do need my eyes checked!
I would enjoy collecting old cars, or older cars like this one. But I am not for using cars like this one for daily use. Too wasteful of energy and too unkind to air quality.
I always liked the 1969 full size Plymouths. Probably because there was a Suburban wagon in the family.
