Seeing that we’re having Big American Car Avoidance Week at CC,and this shot by kurtzos of a Fiat 1800/2100/1500L showed up at the Cohort the same day as the Austin A110 Westminster, it makes a nice point of comparison. The Fiat also arrived in 1959, the same year as the Austin, but has much cleaner lines and no genuine fins. The Fiat, Austin and Peugeot 404 were all done by Pininfarina, and share significant similarities. The Peugeot 404 and Austin have very similar front ends, handsomer than the Fiat. But from there back, the Fiat and Peugeot win hands-down. I suspect BMC insisted on the fins.

Funny, the Austin front end looks Fiat to me, and this Fiat looks more like an Austin. Must be this Fiat’s chrome strip all the way around. The Austin’s single headlights linked by a body crease resembles other Pininfarina Fiats.
Did someone at Pininfarina mix up the blueprints?
The Peugeot 404 looks like a Peugeot.

An Italian Morris Oxford Pinin Farina sure spread his drawing around though Fiat was the first to drop this look where Peugeot and BMC kept it alive untill 71 when the last A60 OXcarts were built and PSA even longer.
