Consider this for what it is: a preview of coming attractions. I’ve been collecting early Mazda and Ford Courier pickup shots for some time, and I promise (like all the dozens of other CC promises I’ve made) that we’ll get to them sooner, rather than later. Good enough, for a so-so commitment? Almost as good as my favorite line when someone tries to get me to commit to doing something I’m not quite sure about yet: “I would be in favor of that”. Equivocal enough? Works great on kids; try it on yours.
CC Outtake: Jackson Pollack Loves Mazda Pickups, And He’s Not The Only One

Does your collection include any of the ex U-Haul Ford Courier box vans? A U-haul in 1980ish is my only experience in this generation, although I had a lot of seat time in later B2200s
It’s sad when you’re truck is painted by a bunch of taggers on acid.
It satisfies my desires to have a compact pickup that isn’t boring! +1 for any vehicle where body damage only makes it better.
Oh crap, there goes my idea for a rolling Jackson Pollock tribute… A college buddy of mine had a great idea. I’d get a white Yugo and paint it with tempera or latex paints in art car fashion. Then when I got tired of the way it looked, take it to the local high pressure car wash, and voila! Instant new canvas. Unfortunately, I can’t locate a Yugo locally, so I may have to find something else equally unlovable…
Reminds me of the less tasteful parts of the 80s waaay too much.. Everybody was doing that splatter paint on everything. Shamefully including myself..
I had a later (’86) B2000 for a while – the gearbox was very sporty for a truck. I quite liked it.
In the ’80s when I worked at an independent auto parts store, we were traded two of these by an overdue customer to settle their debt. They replaced (1) a ’72 F250 with manual drum brakes (2) an ’80 C10 with Olds diesel and (3) a ’70 C10 with 2-speed stick (1st and 3rd–no 2nd). We peons loved them and ran the wheels off of them. It goes to show you what low expectations will do for you.
