For some folks the sixties will never die, at least not until they do. And a disproportionate number of them have found their way to Eugene, especially the Whitaker District. Now obviously, the paint on this Chevy van isn’t all that old yet, given the lack of lichen and moss. So someone has kept up on the art of vintage van painting. Speaking of obvious, I did wonder what the other side would have to say. Maybe that wasn’t necessary:
No, it wasn’t.
Nice paint job though; and cheerful on a gray day. And don’t overlook the ubiquitous cars in the driveway.
So there is a disproportionate number of people like you in Eugene it sounds like a great place nice van maybe it outruns moss and lichen
Wow. The bottoms of the sliding doors on these rust even in Eugene. I plan to be on the lookout for one of these to do a full cc piece on, if I can keep from melting my keyboard. THIS is jpcavanaugh’s 71 Ford.
I’m sure that is the old GM “drain holes in the bottom of door plug and door fills with water and then rusts out” thing.
Caught plugged drain holes on my Chevy the other day when I jacked it up and a flood of water came out the one hole that wasn’t plugged.
For some reason, I’ve only seen cars from The General have the issue…
I guess it looks better than being all one color + the rust.
Weren’t these vans sorta unibody? How much structure is left on the bottom of that thing, I wonder?
I thought this was a Bedford CF at first, who copied who?
I see a strong resemblance too. Not a bad thing, they’re both good-looking vans, IMHO.
There was probably some cross-pollination of basic ideas, but I dare say they were developed in parallel given that there was only the most basic sharing of engineering between the UK and Europe in those days, let alone across the Atlantic. It would be interesting to see how similar they are.
When I first saw this, I had held out hope that the second side said “Quiet”, but alas, no. I prefer curmudgeons to flower children.
that’s funny, I don’t care who you are…reminds me of the old SNL skit where they were advertising the “Middle Age of Aquarius” LP.
So Eugene is a hotbed of Volvo 240? that other pic of the Econoline van had one in the driveway also. Also there is a specimen of the 92-96 Toyota Camry in that pic with the Volvo. The 92-96 Camry to me is the best looking Camry that has been made
Tsk, tsk, expired tags are no bueno, but then again I have seen some 2012 Oregon tags within the past few months here in Portland. Whoever painted this Chevy did a great job with the masking and crisp lines, just hope they took care of the rust. Wonder what happened to a fifth of the grill cover?
This shot is a couple of years old, so I give them a pass.
How funny: I have the “before version” of this masterpiece in my driveway. Same huge cancer spot on the LF fender too. And OF COURSE it’s not removable & part of the unit-body structure.
Interesting how it has the RR window but not the LR: I suppose the RR window was owner or dealer-installed.
Not surprising, as a camper there is probably some cabinetry running the length of that side of the van.
