My sister and her husband recently returned from a vacation in San Antonio. While there, they saw a cool old car in traffic, and Amanda had time to take a quick photo. I was able to identify it as a 1955 Rambler station wagon. Since today’s CC is a Rambler, how about another one?
1955 Ramblers were a one year wonder, utilizing the 1953 body but adding full front wheel cutouts and an updated grille. The 1956 models would be all new. Pretty neat to see a Nash Rambler (or could it be an even rarer Hudson Rambler?) still in daily use.
WTG Tom. Running around Texas has it’s benefits. Just started carrying the camera around in the car. San Antonio has even less tin worms than the Houston area. We do have salt air from the gulf.
I loved AMC cars. Had a 78 Concorde. Was so far better than the 77 Olds I had that I began to form my opinions of them and the General way back then. I am not one that cannot see the old days clearly but I do like me some AMC.
That is a rare bird indeed. Nice catch; I really like these old Ramblers.
Good catch I unfortunately sleep all day now thanks to driving all nite when by the time I identify something old its gone.
My dad briefly had a ’55 Rambler 2-door that he called “Jane.” It was his work car, and if memory serves, it was that same awful shade of orange-beige-pink. I have a pretty vivid memory of sitting in the back seat of ol’ Jane when I was about 4 years old. I’ll never forget that musty smell, and how springy the seats were. I caught sight of a similar but red ’55 2-door last November, on I-5 between Olympia and Tacoma. I got a pretty good pic of it using my BlackBerry, especially when you consider that I was going about 60 and I could only look at the subject of my photo from the corner of my eye…
Cool car, also in my neck of the woods. That was a 1958-60 American. You can tell from the rear-wheel cutouts, which were more open than the 1953-55’s.
Interesting that the rear wheel well was opened up, but didn’t much line up with the wheel. That carried over to the squared-off Americans.
Yum…the 1955 Nashes. Mmmmm…
Here’s another nice one – this is from a car show in Bellingham in 2007. The very friendly gentleman who owned the car even had a small carved wooden replica of it, about 1/25th scale…
I’m going to have to bring my camera in the car more often. Yesterday when I went to the local sandwich place I saw a very nice-looking Cressida sedan – clean and well-cared-for, and the archetypal low-priced second-generation Ranger pickup – white, regular cab and short box with a 5-speed and little wheels and tires, but all in decent condition – a bit oxidized but no rust and a few last winter’s leaves still in the front corners of the box. Up in the front of the lot next to the grocery store was the other end of the automotive spectrum, one of those swoopy new Mercedes sedans that they refer to as four-door coupes, mangling the language in the interest of marketing.
