This big old Blue Bird has been re-purposed: it’s a mobile green-house, and stuff is climbing out the window.
It’s facing west, and given its black paint, I’m not surprised to see things off to a fast start. The tomato looks healthy, and so do the salad greens.
Looks like it’s time to set up some string trellises up to the roof rack for these guys. What else is growing in there?
Well, with it being in Eugene, the mind can only ponder what else might be growing in there! It’s probably bell peppers, collard greens, and okra. Surely there wouldn’t be any glaucoma remedy in there; it grows way too tall for that bus.
Wifey’s uncle used to have a mobile hot house in a ’53 Chevrolet. He had ripped out the interior and put dirt on the inside. Then, he would hook onto it with the riding lawnmower a time or two every day and move it into the sun. There were a bunch of trees around, so that was easier than cutting them down, I suppose.
Brilliant. That would make a good video…
Actually not a bad idea. Probably a cheaper solution than a real greenhouse. An 8 X 8 greenhouse can go for an easy two grand or more. Getting the bus into your backyard could be a problem however…
I swear some of those plants are growing faster than a Yugo accelerates!!!!
Or that very bus (when it was still mobile) for that matter.
🙂 Well, being a ‘proud’ Yugo owner and organic gardener (my only useful hobby 🙂 ), I can guarantee you this is brilliant idea! Very cost effective, completely weather-proof (hail is the worst enemy!)….and if I had a 100m2 more in my back yard, I would park one of these, possibly two and save myself at least 2-3000 USD for new grow tunnel (plastic cover – greenhouse should be all-glass)
As for Yugo, having covered about 230,000 km in one Yugo 55 and recently 7000km in well-preserved 65 (which is supposed to have a feature written about it for CC,as soon as my zucchinis are planted!) 🙂 I can tell you they accelerate just fine…comparing to most muscle cars from
’73-’80 period 🙂
Well drat. When I read that title I immediately thought that this bus was full of Marijuana and I got all excited! 🙂
I knew this would be on CC soon. I’ve driven/ridden by it several times recently.
Are these them “new” GM crops???
I don’t understand the logic for growing veggies in an operating bus, or any operating vehicle for that matter.
Why??
How about “selling a veggies directly from a garden” on farmer’s markets?:) Catchy marketing phrase, and truthful for a change! 🙂
Easy delivery? 🙂
Honestly, it is a bit of nonsense to grow veggies in an operating bus, but this one does seem to be out of regular service for a long time.
