Unfortunately, the “spinning propellor” explanation of the logo design is an example of backwards construction. (Hey. It looks like a spinning propellor. And they’re an AIRCRAFT engine company…) And a good illustration of how a plausible story can become so widespread that it becomes impossible to uproot. It’s now one of those things that “everybody knows”.
The logo is derived from the blue and while “lozenge” flag of Bavaria, slightly altered in orientation.
