I’ve seen plenty of trailers made out of pickup beds, and even van back-ends, but this is the first time I’ve ever noticed an SUV re-purposed like this. My nephew EN shot this in Florida, and what makes it a bit further out of the ordinary is that it was made from two Trooper IIs, no less, with door on both ends.
If there were seats back there, it would be the perfect place for the kids to ride.
I would pull it behind a Trooper, and paint the tailgate to say Trooper Too.
heh
I wonder what used to be in the place where a piece of plywood now resides? Neat trailer and I wonder if it has trailer brakes or could be retrofitted? The Florida trailer laws do not look too complicated and I assume Florida issues an Interstate Transfer Permit to trailers like they do to passenger vehicles. Say Paul, do you know if this trailer would need a license plate in Oregon? I see a number of smaller trailers without a license plate of any kind.

Florida is a bit of an odd place because every year of plate sticker uses the same color scheme and despite being nearly the 3rd most populated state in the Union they still manage to use 6 digit license plates.
Florida gets by with 6-digit license plates by using every possible admixture of letters and numbers. Most of the plates issued in the last few years have four letters and two numbers. And that’s just the standard plates – Florida has a couple of hundred different types of optional license plates.
It looks like it is running a Trooper axle so in theory you could fit surge brakes on it. Of course you could also put on a true trailer axle with electric brakes.
Utility trailers under a certain size/weight limit need no license/registration here. Which means there are some pretty funky ones around.
Double doors & taillights at both ends. I’d call it the “Super Trooper”.
Watch out–those beams are going to blind you, all shining like the sun and whatnot.
Brilliant! 😀
Much more practical than this one…
A two-faced Falcon trailer towed behind a Falcon Ranchero has to be the ultimate hipster vehicle!
For some reason, this photo reminds me of the recent story of a Girl Scout who set up her cookie stand right outside of a Colorado marijuana store and sold huge quantities of cookies to munchies-craving store customers. Imagine a hipster stoner seeing a Girl Scout selling cookies out of this car/trailer combo!
Saw this done with a suburban but not as neatly.
Had a datsun p/u trailer that I pulled behind my 81 Datsun for work. The 81 had a contractor shell and the trailer served as the frequently needed open bed. Called it Datsun and Son of Datsun. Sometimes I called it Datsunofagun or worse.
Wow, same Paul, I’ve seen plenty of ute and station wagon-based trailer, but never an SUV-based on!
Reminds me of the simply awesome caravans from the UK’s Dub Box (http://www.dub-box.com/) – double-ended VW Kombi caravans, what’s not to love!
Spotted this one in Harvey, IL about 10 years ago, parked in front of the abandoned mall where the chase scene for The Blues Brothers was shot. Had a flat tire and didn’t look like it had moved in quite a while.
“Lotta space in this mall” “New Oldsmobiles are in early this year!” Good old Dixie Square Mall
II x II = IV, so Trooper IV.
The Zundapp Janus of trailers.
A few days ago I drove past a Ford Super Duty contractor truck that had an E-Series van roof as an improvised bed cap. In my quick sideways glance, it looked like someone had made a significant and futile effort to install it neatly; it was lined up quite neatly, but since the sides of the van had completely different dimensions from the pickup bed, it still looked like a random collection of body parts.
