Tricerotops is Eugene’s contribution to the rolling sculptures at Burning Man. Here it is in its street-legal guise, but this might as well just be its skeleton. But it had a trial run of its full regalia at the Whitaker Block Party the other day.
Before we see that, here’s a view of its tail end. Just the place to step out for some fresh air on the long trip.
All puffed up and ready to party. Who says Eugenians are lazy; this rig has some serious man hours in it, not to mention a lot of aluminum. Better keep an eye on it at night, given the current price of that precious metal.
Here’s a video of some of the other “vehicles” at that gathering.
You could not get that on the road here those horns would have to go other than that love it definitely an original Learning Ally fab and welding to build ships was a waste wish Id seen this first
It’s hard to believe it could be legal to drive with those horns. If I saw something that scary on the roads here in GA, I’d be likely to call 911 on them. You gotta draw the line somewhere, and while I tend to be uncomfortable defining “the line”, I do know this is way over it.
Aside from that reservation, it’s pretty cool. A lot of skill, sweat, and imagination went into that. 🙂
All to go to the desert and drink oneself insensible.
Wonder if he made it through the Burning Man festivities without getting so wrecked…he wrecked?
If this sounds snarky…it’s not; it’s the voice of experience. Never been to Burning Man; but been to some wild parties and had the bills for repairs to prove it.
Methinks the smart Burner…would go out in a car or bike he doesn’t EXPECT to return in. Soak it all in; pack lots of aspirin and LOTS of drinking water. For the morning after…nothing helps a hangover like huge quantities of water.
From pics I’ve seen over the years, I think that the crazy/artsy vehicles are a big part of what Burning Man is all about.
Tricerotops has been going to BM since 2005. I don’t think BM is quite what you imagine it to be…
Maybe not. Never got there; I was part of an online group that was going to go in 2001. Had one member who made it and reported back to us. But plans fell through and then other things happened…one of the principals of that group lost family on Sept. 11. The group, as it was, evaporated.
But my understanding of it was that a LOT of it was heavy, heavy drinking and partying. Nothing wrong with that, although in my more-advanced age now, it’s not my cup of tea.
But such elaborate, expensive preparations for it – not the burning man, but to construct such a rolling show as this – give me a W-T-F moment.
Wow! Does it also turn into a giant robot? 🙂
