We’ve seen the original Curbside Classic Manor in Eugene, where owning a classic is required by the lease. A branch complex has now opened in the Portland area. It’s certainly equal opportunity for all ages and national origins. I think any of us would find a good friend here. That space age T-Bird is calling out to me. How about you?
CC Outtake: Curbside Classic Manor North – Part 1

Is that Jaguar classic already? Maybe it’s a case of “My other car is a classic”
Under-21 residents are allowed, so long as the management agrees it’s a future classic.
Wow, quite a surprising collection of cars.
You’ll have to fight me for the T-Bird though I’d certainly take the drop to Stang as a consolation prize.
The red ’62 Impala is the ticket for me, but I wouldn’t kick the Mercedes 280 ragtop out of the garage either. 🙂
While a lifelong Mopar (and AMC) fan, have always like that era T-Bird. The rear taillights and surround seemed to be designed to evoke jet engines. Will also suggest that Chrysler’s 50 Turbine cars seemed to be styled much like this era T-Bird. Anyways, a very cool apartment complex.
I loved the 61-63 T-Bird when it debuted and still do – definitely jet age styling. Today I watched CSPAN’s broadcast of NBC’s complete coverage of JFK’s funeral in 63 and it’s been fun to see all of the great old cars again. Right in front of the Capitol building was a bright new 1964 T-Bird parked behind a dowdy 1961 Rambler. And of course there was the beautiful 1960 Imperial Crown Ghia limousine that Jackie used. The wild styling of the 1960 model seemed to work best on the proportions of the huge limousine. I’ll take any of those classy 60’s cars in the carport.
Good to know I wasn’t the only one watching the assassination specials for all the old car coverage, boy did the Dallas Police Dept. get a deal on 63 Fords or what?
I think police depts back then replaced their cars more often, like every 2-3 years. I saw a few 60 Ford’s in the coverage, but mostly 63’s. Cars were relatively cheaper back then. I also noticed that DPD had a variety of colors. Some were dark blue, some white and some black with white hood and trunk.
My dad had a blue T-Bird, the first of two horrible blue ones that probably helped set my future avoidance of anything Ford for the next 50 years in stone, and drove him to a Chrysler Imperial, and then a Cadillac Sedan DeVille. I liked the Bird’s looks, but they were both disasters ,with multiple problems from day one. If I had to choose one of the cars in the pic, it would be the Chevy.
Sorry to hear about the quality problems with the Birds. My Dad had a 65 T-Bird that was easily one of the best cars we ever had, almost flawless, with the exception of a small leak that allowed rainwater into the trunk, a common fault on that generation of Birds. The Wixom assembly plant generally was acknowledged to be pretty good.
I have to admit, I much prefer the ‘warm’ white of the Mustang, to the ‘pure’ white of the Jag. I find it’s a bit too sterile/appliance-like. Rare to see five cars in a row, parked so well. haha
I like the T-Bird best.
Where’s this complex in Portland? Of these five cars, the Merc got my vote.
This has to be one of my all-time favourite CC photos! I’d be delighted with any one of those classics – probably the T-Bird most of all – but to be honest I’d take the Jag first time every time. Assuming it started that day of course… 😉
Is this like the CC version of the “Justification for Higher Education” poster from the 80’s?
You could put this on Youtube- “Scoop! Time traveler in 1968- and they drive Jaguars!!!”
“After Doc Brown’s Jag stranded him in 1968, he got chatting with a GM engineer named DeLorean…”
I like it.
“If you’re going to build a time machine why not do it with some style! Now Marty…I’m awfully sorry but I forgot my wallet, can you get the Pultonium?”
I’ll go for the Mustang with the T bird and Impala 2nd and 3rd.While a long time fan of American cars and even owning 2 I find the full size cars just to big for UK roads and parking spaces and prefer pony/compact cars.
The Impala would be my first choice, and a toss-up between the Mustang and the Merc for second place.
Gimme that ’62 Chevy… NOW!
Wow, it is as if that Jag figured a way to travel time back to 1969. I am a sucker for these TBirds – I owned a 61, but would like to try one that actually runs and drives well, rather than just mostly taking up garage space. Cool picture.
I see there’s already a long waiting list for the Bullet ‘Bird, which would be my pick of this litter as well. I don’t suppose there’s a pre-1972 Mopar sitting just off camera? 🙂
This scene looks straight out of a “Cars” animated movie! The graphic artists at Pixar should have this picture pinned to their wall. Or as their computer screen wallpaper.
I can’t believe none of you guys has put dibs on the Mercedes! I’d take that one in a a heartbeat. Carmine and CA Guy, I also watched the JFK funeral on C-SPAN; watching it from a perspective 50 years removed from 1963 gives one a new and deep appreciation of the vehicles and sensibilities of the time. Even to this day, hearing the Navy Hymn gives me goosebumps.
I’m with you Tony. The 280SE Cabriolet/Coupe is my favorite Mercedes-Benz–especially if it has the 3.5 V8!
I love the dark blue with dark blue top too. It’s perfect!
Glad you like this photo so much! The planets were all in alignment that day. I have another couple of photos for Part 2 this evening.
I tried to find Paul’s original CC Apts. posting but couldn’t find the right set of words for Google to find it. I’d like to link to it in the text. Anybody remember?

Hey, if that dual exhaust Chevy’s a 409, I can find room…
I think Id have the merc as a first choice and the impala second the jag does absolutly nothing for me same for the bird.
I guess my first choice would be the Benz or the Chevy.
Am I the only one who noticed all the dust on the classics? They don’t look like they’ve been driven lately.
I’ll take the Benz!
What are the chances that one guy owns all of these, and did a deal with his neighbors?
I knew I’d seen that Mercedes before: https://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/cc-capsule/cc-convertible-capsule-68-mercedes-and-mustang/
