I’m not sure how the band “Death Cab for Cutie” decided on their name, but it appears we’ve found the titular Death Cab.
Found in Westminster, Colorado across from Faversham Park. I have nothing further to add.

“Death Cab for Cutie” was originally the name of a slow, rockabilly track off of The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band’s first (or second – memory is a little fuzzy right now) album. If you’ve never heard these guys, you should. One of the more fascinating bands to come out of the Sixties, and they had a role in The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour film.
Probably best known for giving Monty Python’s Neil Innes his start. There’s a fair tie-in between the two entities.
Found it for you! And yes, it’s off the first album, “Gorilla”.
Well the band name came from the title of a song by the Bonzo dog doo dah band, but I think they got the name from a 1950’s editorial complaining about how pulp fiction novels were corrupting young minds.
Picture Sam the American Eagle saying ” …and terrible novels, with names like “Death Cab for Cutie, written by… weirdos”
At any rate if cutie needed a death cab that would surely be it.
Here for you, direct from Kalamazoo.
All of the above references are before my time, so I’ve tended to think of Death Cab for Cutie as being either an assemblage of word salad, or named in a more literal sense. And this knackered Marathon is the perfect representation of number two.
Kalamazoo, Checker’s home, a stove company used to advertise “…direct to you”
A chip company “…fresh to you”
Or maybe Meth Cab for Bootie?
….. certainly some wheels with a checkered past
Isn’t the name connected to the “Paul is Dead” hoax?
Oh hey, I recognize that car. It’s been competing in the 24 Hours of Lemons for several years now.
The perfect car for a TAXI dystopian reboot.
The story I heard was original phrase/title was taken from an old NY Daily News or NY Post headline about the murder of a young woman at the hands of a cab driver.
“…was that the original..”
Thanks for the Bonzo Doo-Dah Dog Band video. I have never heard of them. As for the Checker, YUK!
The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band ~ wow that brings back some late light FM radio memories .
For some reason the clip has very low volume even when I get the sound level to 100 .

I actually like it.
Ready for the Death Race.
