What does an early Land Rover sound like at full chat? A bit like a hopped up tractor. This one was out enjoying a beautiful summer evening, and its driver was making full use of its 2.25L four, accelerating away briskly from the stop light. A big four working hard through a minimal muffling is a very nice sound indeed.
There it goes. The driver is enjoying the breeze the Landy is affording him, windshield down, face to the wind. Nice summer joy ride.
At first, I thought you meant THIS Landy. 🙂
+1. Even more so if it had “dandy” in the title.
Wonder if that driver has an emergency pair of goggles on hand or ear plugs for when the speed limit is more than 25? Nice looking Landy indeed!
Goggles and ear plugs would only ruin the experience, says someone who has ridden in a ’71 Ford Bronco with just a stock 351C 4V swapped in it. Youza!
I have had this exact experience; a biscuit tray landie (oz army colours) with the four cyl engine. Despite its lack of briskness, the heavy chassis and lightweight body mean you can take corners like a sportscar. True mosquitoes in the teeth driving. Love it.
Man oh man…just seeing this makes me miss my Jeeps.
Every time I visit St. Augustine I tell myself I should take a picture of a Land Rover that’s sitting in a field on the edge of town. That one is a dual rear axle tow truck…I guess used to pull cars off the beach after a “career” on an oilfield somewhere.
It was still there when I was down for Drake’s Raid in early June.
Will check it out again sometime in October when I take the ’83 Yamaha Venture Royale for it’s shakedown cruise.
It was there last tuesday (August 9th) when I went by. I also noticed another Land Rover a few yards from it last week….not sure how long that one has been there as I never noticed it was there before last week.
All the 4×4 you’ll ever need. Great vehicles.
