When I saw these two 4x4s with so many similarities despite being some 50-60 years apart, I couldn’t resist shooting them. Especially since they were sitting in front of the Holly, Eugene’s narrowest apartment building.
Ok, enough with the (not so) funny stuff. Here’s the shot before I cropped it. But you can see why I had to shoot them. Are there two other vehicles a half century apart that still have such similar proportions, basic styling, and missions?
Even the original shot shows a pretty narrow building. I hardly ever see 2 door Wranglers any more.
🙂 that reminded me of the walking tour in Greenwich Village which went by the narrowest house in NYC
I see a few 2 door Wranglers and even fewer real Land Rovers. Cool!
The Jeep is probably the one without a puddle of oil underneath it.
There’s a 1990s Land Rover Defender parked in a driveway a few blocks from my house. It always has a drip pan under it.
This reminds me of my high-school English teacher assigning us to “Compare and Contrast”. Two different items, but both rooted in same functionality. And really, which is older in design? The Jeep harks back a few years earlier in original design, but the Land Rover came out in 1948, just post-WWII.
I would say that although the build date may be 50 years apart, they are both contemporary designs, not really far apart in any other aspect. It would be like comparing a 2014 Hindustan Ambassador to the Morris Oxford from 1956. Same roots, slightly different build, but the DNA is strongly shared.
Good catch Paul and I was almost bamboozled.
What’s with that apartment building?
Delayed CC Effect … a few days ago I saw an even rarer 2 door Land Rover, a 109” LWB wagon with just two doors. It was in a similar variegated earth-tone coloration as this 88” SWB example.
And Chrysler did a really great job of modernizing the new JL Wrangler while staying true to its roots. Funny how everybody else seems to be content to leave that market to Jeep.
