Having spotted the famous Wienermobile and profiled it here just over a year ago, I thought that it was about time for another sighting of one of America’s most famous vehicles. On Monday, a random choice of jogging path put me on a collision course with the same Wienermobile profiled here in April 2014. This time, I caught it at the local firehouse, getting a wash from the firefighters. They were gallantly helping the two young ladies in the photo, who had just arrived after driving the Wienermobile from its home base in Wisconsin.
The same firehouse has a classic fire truck that the fire company rolls out to carry Santa during Christmas season, for parades, and on other special occasions. I have never determined its make, but I am certain that someone who knows fire trucks will identify it quickly.

Here’s an enhanced image; easier to see both the Wienermobile and the young ladies.
Thanks; I just replaced them both with yours. Much better. 🙂
Very nice! The original photos accurately captured the 7:30 PM lighting of the scene, but I did not like the lack of contrast; your enhancements show the scene much better.
Cool find–a fabulous frank and a classic fire truck I think the truck might be a Maxim (maybe?) but I can’t offer any further assistance. As to the wienermobile–what sort of running gear might be underneath this one, I wonder?
There are also an untold number of wiener jokes that my better judgment is telling me to keep to myself…
The fire truck is a 1960s era Pirsch. Amazing to see one still in service!
This fire truck has probably not answered an emergency call in a quarter of a century, so “in service” may not be the exactly right words to describe it, but it is amazing to see it on the roads. It runs quite healthily in its annual Christmas runs and other occasional events.
Peter Pirsch, the OTHER motor vehicle built in Kenosha.
And here’s another one, easier to see the Wienermobile and the young ladies…and the antique fire truck.
About 15 yrs ago when I was 45 I got a chance to ride in the wienermobile around downtown Houston. It made my day and they gave me a wienermobile whistle!!!
That looks like the downtown Houston TX firestation.

Here in Brazil, this car would be the target of countless dirty jokes…
Not just in Brazil, Rubens.
I would imagine those two young ladies have heard it all. I can imagine them saying to a would-be weiner jokester: “Tell me one I HAVEN’T heard.”
I remember reading about these. Don’t they get college students to drive them during the summer? Makes colorful memories, no doubt.
They build these in Goleta, CA, at a company that specializes in prototype vehicles. I’ve seen this, the Hershey’s Kissmobile and a couple of other promotional vehicles on test drives.
I used to live in Madison, home base for Oscar Mayer (colloquially known around town as “Oscar”, as in, “my uncle works at Oscar”) and the Wienermobiles (there are 2-3, I think). Typically, the Wienermobile crews are college marketing students, most often from the U. of Wisconsin, who spend a summer as an intern driving around the country promoting Oscar Mayer. When in town, they are frequently hired for corporate events, large parties and even some weddings–I’ve seen one pull up at a reception venue and the wedding party emerge in full wedding finery…make your own wedding-and-wiener jokes. 😛
These are built on Chevy van chassis, IIRC.
The two drivers looked college age, so they fit the profile of summer Wienermobile crews. It must be a fun job, for those who can take (and fire back in response to) the inevitable wiener jokes!
At one time I’d have dared to throw around a weiner joke in a situation like this, but nowadays I think these young ladies would just think that I was a dirty old man. Older and wiser.
From Laguna Seca in April …
Now, THAT’S funny!
They both have such happy faces…
The drivers of the Wienermobile are known as “Hotdoggers.” I swear! Many years ago I was staying in a hotel in Madison where I stumbled upon their convention. These days they have a blog and everything: hotdoggerblog.com.
I heard they were built on Hummers….I’m here all week, folks!
I saw that headline yesterday and thought I was missing out on a naughty joke!
I haven’t seen the Wienermobile in person in about 10 years or so. The Hotdoggers I ran across were very nice folks who took the time to talk to a dad and his two daughters as they were on their way into the hotel to sleep for the night.
Gotta wash your Weiner! sorry
