For some reason that strikes me as the automotive equivalent of Kurt Cobain. You know, “underneath the bridge…”, it’s in the Pacific Northwest, but south of Aberdeen. Assuming you found it in Astoria, OR.
That’s a familiar sight from my childhood: Fiat 1100 wagon. A friend of my mom’s had a similar-vintage 1100 sedan that she took us on some outings occasionally. One time she had the sunroof open and let us stand up while on a little Alpine road, and we held handkerchiefs in our hands because the trailed behind us in the wind. I let mine go, and she had to turn around and get it. Too many memories….especially since I’ve been in Innsbruck for a week now, immersing myself in familiar surroundings.
Was in Astoria for the 30th Anniversary of the Goonies and a few times before that. Now I want to find this scene since I might know where it is and the place is not that large. Astoria thought it might be the next San Francisco at some point, a bit sad it did not pan out.
Actually thats probably a good thing. Astoria’s charm is that it’s very ‘real’. Its a bit salty and gritty yet quaint. At any bar in town people are pretty real and down to earth.
Well, ya kinda can’t blame the owners for wanting their privacy…but they should’ve known, on the other hand, what they were getting into, by owning an essential “movie prop” in a popular film.
I believe this is the Astoria neighborhood in NYC. William does a lot of posts from NYC. It’s been years since I was in Astoria, OR but I don’t recall it looking like this.
That rust on the lower fender and C piller looks a little scary. Looks like there might be some around the top of the windshield too. It’s probably too far gone. I’ll bet it’s somebody’s parts car.
That Olds Cutlass is probably still sitting there, because the owner doesn’t want to sell it, because:
1) He’ll get to it someday… Yeah, probably been 25+ years since he purchased it, and parked it soon after.
2) He’s just a hoarder.
3) Is waiting for the muscle car market to revamp like 2006/2007
4) Is one of those eccentrics, whose not sure if he’ll sell, but just MIGHT one day, will take your number and says he’ll call ya… Never does.
5)The car was left by his brother-in-law, Lenny… Who never told the homeowner, he was moving out of state. “Man, is it okay, if I leave my car at your house for a few?”… A few, meaning years.

Here’s a 1960 FIAT 1100 wagon in better shape.
wonder what the car in the back it
Olds A body based on the headlights a 69-70 model.
It’s a 1970 model because the grille dips down into the bumper.
Yeah forget that thing in the front, I want that olds.
On second thought, that fiat makes a good slide and it probably has lots of space inside for storage.

Variation of the cc effect – there’s one of these in MUCH better shape for sale right now on Bring a Trailer.

They actually had a celebration for that dumb movie? 😛
Yes, so many people were doing the shuffle on the guys lawn that he put out tarps to block them.

yeah, that be astoria, QUEENS. home of the steinway piano among other things.
Cutlass to Fiat: “You think you got it bad? Try sitting for a decade with an air conditioner on your hood!” 😉
The Cutlass in the back looks reasonably solid and is also 10 years newer, with parts more easily available. I’m surprised nobody has snapped it up.

It’s better than it looks that’s rather easy to fix. As it has the vinyl roof trim its probably the cause of rust on the roof.

Sometimes when an older car is left somewhere, it can be forever.
( I’m familiar with several abandoned cars in Detroit suburbs, as they stay there as if forever. )
Cute little Fiat ! .

What an interesting thing to find under a bridge. Not a troll, though.
Is that private property? If not, I’m surprised the city hasn’t hauled both away years ago…
