Colorful and original re-paints are quite common here in Eugene; hey, got to live up to the city’s official marketing slogan: “A Great City for Arts and the Outdoors”. When originally coined about ten years ago, it was “World’s Greatest City for the Arts and Outdoors”, but that came off a bit too…Trumpian (oops; sorry, couldn’t resist). So our wise city mothers and fathers dialed it back a bit. But perhaps there are subsidies for art cars?
Anyway, I was never too happy with that slogan, since it left out “Curbside Classics”.
Do these cars ever travel outside of the I5 corridor? I only ask because it seems like you’d be profiled to all hell in the eastern part of the state or any other state for that matter
I got pulled over more times in my ’71 VW bus than in any other car I’ve ever owned. Never got a ticket, though – I didn’t “fit the profile” once they checked me out, and I certainly wasn’t speeding!
One time I was pulled over twice in a couple of miles by the same cops. I had ran a red light and got a ticket for it on the first stop. In my ’66 Bus. Both times the cops pulled everything out (including the rubber floor mats), left everything out on the street, and finally left so pissed my friend and I were both sober and had no illegal contraband in the VW.
Another time I was pulled over in the same Bus in front of my house for a non working taillamp (which worked perfectly when I checked it out with the officers.) I had forgotten my wallet and was told I would go to jail, they would not walk the 50 feet with me to go to my house. Mom saw them through the window and told them to fuck off when she came out with my wallet and I told her what was going on. They left.
Pulled over once in my ’63 Beetle around near my high school. I got a lecture on how my VW was a death trap and I needed to buy a bigger car. That was the reason for pulling me over. But at least this cop was nice and seemed to have genuine concern.
Or Idaho!? A Stoner friend of mine who looks like a stereotypical Stoner gets profiled when he drives his Subaru with Oregon Plates to Idaho.
I live in the Portland Metro Area and have so for nearly 3.5 years. I usually do not have the time or money to wander too far from the I-5 corridor or the U.S 101 Corridor.
States near those that have legalized Marijuana are experiencing a lot of traffic from enterprising people from both sides of the boarder. Legal open competition has driven down prices significantly in those states so it would either save or make a person a good chunk of money to cross the border.
So I can see police profiling a guy that fits the stereotype and is driving the favored vehicle of stoner snow boarders.
The Peacock car would be easy to find in the parking lot at Walmart. On the VW Airforce bus, I like it. I don’t know why but I do.
Interesting, very Oregon hippy mobile.
This is one of the somewhat rare art cars that appears well-finished and attractive. In fact, given the inherent blanditude of this generation of Altima, it may be an improvement!
That looks a lot more exciting than my silver version of that model Altima. However mine has, in 3 plus years of ownership, been invisible to the local constabulary. I need some paint work but I think I am going to keep it boring and silver…
The critics called these bland, boring and forgettable. I added gen 2.5 headlights to my ’98 Altima so I could drive at night, and a trunk spoiler to make it less boring. But this one is certainly not forgettable. It just needs to be finished off with something in the wheel and hubcap area.
Other than the headlights and other mostly wear and tear items, mine’s been a great car for the 12 years I’ve owned it.
Looks very nicely done, not something I would choose to drive around in but kudos to the artist and the hours invested.
