We came across this scene on our current regular walk route. Hmm. Did this happen late the night before? Or early in the morning?
Poor tree. Being a street tree is not exactly life on easy street.
I see that it’s been ticketed. Assault and battery on a tree?
Naw. Just a parking ticket. I can’t make all of it out, but “Curb strip..$25” is part of it. And the total is $50. So maybe the assault and battery on the tree rated the other $25?
PS: When we walked by two days later, it was still there. Four days later it was gone.
Well, as a former law enforcement officer, I’d say the Eugene Police must be fairly lenient. We would have run the plate, paid the owner a visit, and invited him down for a breathilyzer test…
As a criminal defense attorney, I’d say the Eugene PD knows the law better. If they’re not intoxicated at the scene, the most they could be charged with is leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. A breathalyzer later at home establishes no probable cause for a DUI, they could have started drinking after the accident when they get home.
Not if they were able to intimidate a confession out of the poor bastard.
Very true, and intimidation not necessarily required. One of my favorite statements ever in a police report was when they were responding to an apartment complex due to the odor of a possible meth lab. Went around knocking, and when they were at the unit next door asking about it, my client opened his door and volunteered, “Oh, that’s me!”
I like the invisible front bumper repair. Driver looks like they love this car. Note the Parisian style parking. ” Two days later it was gone” . Properly now siting in the city pound then.
Looking at all the prior damage, seems that this is a regular thing for them. I only hope that they get off the road before these whiskey dents turn into them running into someone else.
“Aww, Clarence, how come Bert gave me a ticket, huh?”
(What WOULD George Bailey be driving these days?)
With all the kids he had, my guess would be a 2010 Dodge Caravan.
“Daddy, you should see the new SUV the neighbors got!”
“What’s the matter, isn’t our Aerostar good enough for ya’?”
Ed Stembridge, that is a great comment.
Tiger Woods in town?
Based on the other driver’s side damage that’s as yet untaped, I’d look up the street and see if there are other damaged trees, or worse yet, parked cars.
Color coordinated Duct Tape!
Next time there’s a pedestrian or cyclist hit-and-run in Eugene, this is the first license plate number they should track down for questioning.
Not great for the tree. There’s big sycamore in our neighborhood who took a similar hit, but from a city bus, and it’s still with us.
This is how crossovers end up looking after 5 feet of off-road driving
I don’t get it – how hard would it have been to back the car up about 8 feet and get it on the road? The damage doesn’t look so bad that the car wouldn’t run.
The difficulty rises with the blood alcohol level.
Judging from the general condition of that heap, this isnt its first rodeo.
What a disgrace!
I mean, trees these days can wander just whatever they like, but oh no, it’s always the fault of the Evil Motorist.
Could have been abandoned as a stolen car. Thus the reason it sat for 4 days before disappearing.
