Is this the right way to transport a shovel on the roof of one’s car? Will the handle tend to fly up at the front? Or is it secured tightly enough to keep that from happening? We need the experts to weigh in here.
A closer look. Perhaps the blade should be flipped 180 degrees so as to not function as a spoiler, thus increasing pressure on the handle to lift. That might be my only recommendation.
He’s not transporting a shovel. He’s using a shovel to hold down a pillow, which would otherwise fly off the roof.
Correct.
I say as it sits works fine. The foot treads on the shovel head act as a fulcrum point and end support. The other end of the handle acts as a second support while the handle acts a lever from each point. The spring tension of the wood handle offers resistance to the tie down strap which locks it in place. The pillow acts as dunnage to help keep the shovel head in place and as a bonus offers scratch protection.
It simply has to be a poop shovel. Otherwise, why wouldn’t the owner of this 1990-ish Camry just fold down the back seat and transport it *inside* the car??
And assuming it is indeed a poop shovel, you can’t strap it down blade forward because the smell would still waft into the car.
Definitely the wrong way to carry it, to carry a shovel you need a minimum of a 3/4 ton pickup.
It also needs to be 4WD due to the dirt on the blade.
Yup, forgot that part.
Shovel was very tired and decided to take a nap. The owner didn’t want to wake it so on the roof it went with some light restraints. This the most comfortable position for a shovel.
I believe the correct way to transport a shovel is vertically with the handle thrust into the stake pocket of a pickup truck or tied to the ladder rack..
I would be so exasperated if I had to wait/watch that episode for hauling a shovel.
(Pulls hair out) lol
Reminds me of the time when I was being a bit reverant about getting into a Bossman’s brand-new LTD, while wearing dirty clothes and handling a greasy truck component: “I bought this (blank) to drive, get in!” as the dirty part got tossed into the back seat. lol
If you don’t strap it down it will fall off and that means when you get to where you’re going it won’t be there so you won’t have to use it.
Thats called a $600 insecure load here plus points against your licence.
