I’ve never seen anything quite like this, such a giant appendage, and attached to the car via the rear bumper. That must generate some serious down force, to the point I’d be worried about the front end lifting up at speed.
Those purple-tinted plexiglass vertical elements add another dimension, as if it was needed.
Maybe it’s a foldout carport?
I can smell the vape from here. Such a great car to be ruined like this, those wheels, that awful ground effects kit, the hood, the lazy headlight all topped off by that coffee table out back.
Agreed, poor FC RX-7. Deserves way better than that.
Why all the hate? It’s hardly “ruined” by a few bolt on do-dads. I might not like it, and you might not like it, but plenty of people probably don’t like stuff you or I do either.
The person clearly likes their car; it takes some dedication to keep a 30+ year old car on the road. They’re learning as they go and keeping the automotive hobby alive. Who are you to tell them they’re doing it wrong?
Too many Karen’s on this site, It’s a bit goofy for my taste, I’m less Bōsōzoku style and more Tsukuba super lap.
It’s actually more drift, I’m genX and knowledgable of Initial D etc and I hope the owner is sliding up the curves in Oregon.
I like drift car style but something’s I find super annoying like up swept exhaust’s at the rear but I like dents with a sharpie drawn cat’s head with blackeye.
If the owner is running the original 13B I salute him/her, a lot of these cars (RX7’s) are subjected to heinous LS conversion’s or the most sicking and perverted repowering with Honda K24 engines, which viewing
videos on Youtube causes me unquenchable homicidal rage.
This car woulda’ve been recycled already if it wasn’t for the owner.
It may have started as a auto/atmo worthless daily driver and if the owner has rebuilt the 13B into a 500hp destroyer of corvettes, WRX’s etc I salute again.
Found a Youtube channel that I’ve watch only 1 video and loved it and subscribed.
Video: RAD Potential Is a Bridgeport Streetable?
Tearing up the midwest in a early 80’s weber sidedraft (where’s the IDA?) bridgeport 12A RX7 is the best thing I’ve seen a Youtube for a while.
And warning RAD Potential uses the word Karen to describe reactions of other motorists.
It does not have to be my cup of tea. I don’t have to like a car, or its color, etc, but time and money were spent on wheels and homemade spoilers and the headlights don’t work properly. On a car blog that is worthy of comment. Or I should just say “looks great!” ?
Headlights are probably like that on purpose. Google “sleepy eye rx7” (or “sleepy eye s13” for a more common example)
1.) Can be folded down to use as workbench
2.) Top part removable, becomes surfboard/bodyboard
This reminds me of some cars I have seen. They were usually cheap old cars, with some rust/dull paint equipped with a set of $4,000+ extreme diameter wheels with one inch profile “tires”. Go figure.
Go BIG or Go Home!
It’s a pedestrian slicer.
Bōsōzoku style (outrageous wing, slammed, stanced). It’s a real thing in Japan, and this one is relatively tame. I don’t hate it because it’s fairly consistent and probably a work in progress.
There is also some self parody going on; the rear hatch has a pink shit.box. RX7 decal.
I spotted a pool of water in the recesses of the whale tail. That’s not likely to create a large amount of downforce, but it’ll surely create plenty of turbulence up there!
Thats the first time I’ve seen a snowplow attached on the back and facing the sky.
Silly kids with their Beatles albums, blue jeans and crazy ideas!
Haha!
I thought it was a pizza shelf. Tape the pie down for carrying, and then fold the wing down to use as a shelf on which to consume said pizza with buddies. Hope the pepperoni doesn’t get blown off.
A couple of weeks ago I was behind a 300ZX with a similarly large wing, sans extra panels. It was quite sad to see the holes that were butchered in the bumper cover for the brackets.. While they seemed to have got the location side to side spot on with the bracket centered in the cut out with just a little room on each side, the height was another story. The opening extended 3-4 inches above the bracket on one side, while it was maybe an inch smaller on the other side.
Almost forgot the best part, the front was angled up so that it provided lift rather than down force.
Gotta prove you’re serious. It was either this, or the F-Series monster truck.
That’s no way to treat an RX7.
Oh my. One can see all kinds of cars somewhat like this at the former NAS, Alameda especially this past year. They show up to race their cars back and forth in a large lot adjacent to the airfield runways. Also every month there seems to be a gathering of cars (I’ll be polite) in front of the USS Hornet. Gets bigger every month and this Saturday had to be at least 100 cars. Many just have to rev their engines to redline so they can show how powerful their cars sound and to generally make a lot of noise. There is even music and an announcer so it must be organized now. At least they leave quietly around 1530 hours although I’d hate to be in the Webster Tube when they decide to speed through.
Figured it would be up on Youtube

This one is cars and coffee I believe the week before at which I heard it was near 300 cars. A slightly different crowd with some older models unlike the above. When you have a DeLorean driving through…

That’s actually an air brake. Take it off and gain 10MPH higher top speed.
With or with out the wing, pristine or a beater, It’s still a hard pass from me.
