Miata enthusiasts really wear the work in progress status proudly like no other, reminds me of my my old neighbor who had his in a very similar state for a while, before painting the whole thing with spray cans
I love that generation GMC front end with the quad headlights, Chevys seem to get most of the love in that 68-72 range but none of their grille variations looked that classy. It is funny though, as a child of the 90s when Dodge pretty much trademarked the crosshair grille, the first time I saw one of these GMCs was a real head scratcher
He’s not loving that Miata today if he’s having to try to fit his hands in the engine bay, thankfully that’s generally a rare occurrence event…but I do like the looks of that GMC truck as well, 8foot bed single cab, looks beefy, no downsides there. Certainly an interesting combination of vehicles.
Yessir – just changed the oil on my ’95M Miata yesterday for the first time by myself and boy the oil filter is located in one of the most inaccessible locations. The filter itself is tiny, and yet it is still hard to get the thing out, having to reach in from the underside of the passenger wheel well.
And those psky oil filters can be stuck fast. My first one took me 5 hours and three different filter tools till I got the right one and got it off.
Great cars, keep on spannering.

I’m 53… my back hurts just looking at that guy work on his Miata. I sold my 300ZX not too long after trying to get in and out of it during a couple of back sprains.

I agree with you on the GMCs of this era—that grille and headlights are just perfect.
Dodge did have some history with the cross hair grille—check out a ’47 Dodge pickup if you want to see the original inspiration!

Great photo, Mr Niedermeyer. Those bright-yellow Prestone jugs really pop, pulling the eye off-center from the dull red fender . . .
Looks like Mr Miata isn’t going to settle for stock: is that a tailpipe, or a Bondian aft cannon ?
