My partner and I took a trip to the U.K. for a couple weeks back in 2016. We rented a car and drove from London to Edinburgh for a few days. We were completely astonished by the number of small cars pulling big camping trailers, or caravans, as they call them.
I had a 2008 Yaris 2-door hatch for eleven years. Not fancy, but a wonderful car. I once used it to straighten up a good size tree that blew down. I also ran it several times at various track days. Never had a hiccup. When it reached 199,000 miles, I finally traded it in. Aside from air cleaners, oil changes, brakes and tires, I never put a dime into it.
Here’s a photo of it on the track at Pocono Raceway. (Yes, the Shelby was faster…)
I love seeing your Yaris on the track! I have a 2008 with 330,000 Miles. Only thing I’ve replaced was normal wear items and one drive axle. And I’m not easy on this car 🙂 I autocross it at least once a month. I will be going to Nelson’s ledges this weekend. She has TRD lowering spring, TRD sway bars, Toyo proxes r1rs on Scion xB rims and hawk brake pads.
Allyn S Jones – 330,000 miles on the odometer and no major repairs? Wow, I should have kept mine. I thought I was chancing it as I approached 200,000 miles on mine! Allan Lacki
Honestly, some of the best cars ever made. No frills just tough as nails. I would put that trailer behind my car any day. She is now my second car so not so many highway miles anymore, strictly track days.
I guess I have a long way to go in my 2005 xB. It only has 105,000 miles.
I wonder if anyone ever put in the xB transmission with its lower (higher numerical) final drive in a Yaris, for track work?

You really have my intention. I’ve done some quick research and I don’t know if it would improve track times or acceleration but it seems like it would, and I’m pretty sure it would bolt right up.
Doing a bit of googling tells me that the transmissions are not identical, and the xB box will not readily fit in the Yaris, but it’s fairly easy to swap in the xB’s final drive. Parts are about $100. Here’s someone that did it to their racing Yaris:

Looks like you were pressuring the Shelby into hopefully making a mistake and letting you by on the inside, good shot! Can you imagine the shame? 🙂

Thank you!
Yaris at Pocono. With wheels from a Mazda MX-3 GS and sticky summer tires. I couldn’t resist posting this!
I like your style.
Ah, now it looks like you got by him, excellent sequence of posting the shots! Those Shelbys, overrated, I say… Yaris is where it’s at!
I see it’s with a trailer. You didn’t say or show it was attached to or pulling that trailer.
Happy Motoring, Mark
