This one’s for you Paul. I was coming out of the Moline Public Library earlier this week when I spotted this 1965 Pontiac, guarded by two Labs. It is a Star Chief, Paul, yes indeedy! I would have gotten more pics, but didn’t want to bother the dogs, who appeared to be enjoying the day and looking out the windows – all four were down halfway.
Late Night Outtake: Gone To The Dogs?

Thank you! A name deeply embedded in my childhood memory indeed. Pontiac’s way of adding wheelbase in these vintage Star Chiefs and Bonnevilles left that odd gap between the rear door and rear wheel cutout, but who was looking at that anyway?
I just now started wondering whether this ’65 was the last year for the Star Chief; it was, strictly speaking. In ’66, it was renamed Star Chief Executive, with the word Executive boldly displayed on its side. By ’67, it was just Executive. The Star Chief star went dim, a victim of changing tastes in names as well as other things.
When I was a kid in the late 60s-early 70s, an aunt and uncle had a 65 Catalina sedan. It was their good car (a 64 Galaxie 500 4 door hardtop was the beater). The 65 Pontiac still had a lot of personality. I remember the chromy dashboard and the turquoise translucent plastic steering wheel. I have not seen a basic 65 Pontiac 4 door in ages.
Tom, your note about the dogs reminds me how I was taking shots of a car a couple of weeks ago. I just finished getting an interior shot and noticed a great big sleeping dog in the back seat. I am glad I didn’t wake it up.
The Executive!!!!
I want one these soooo badly, anyone see any differences between the 67 or 68?
The desire is now bordering on lust….. to quote ‘spinal tap’
‘How Could I leave this behind’? .
The 67 -Stacked Headlights – 68 – Grill/within Bumper, like a wider 68 Firebird, 68 head Lights side by side
1968 Hockey Stick taillights Have a smoother, blended in look to 67’s chrome sectioned hockey stick. facing down
68s have side markers std, unlike 67s
67 Exec
Another 68
For those interested to check an eye on the Canadian Laurentian and Parisienne Pontiacs, here the 1966 brochure http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/Canada/1966%20Pontiac%20Brochure/dirindex.html 😉
Was The 1966 canadian Grande Parisienne a 4 door Gran Prix … or a 4 door Top Bonneville? which tailights did it have?
I wondered the same thing, I guess for 1966, the Grande Parisienne was a top Bonneville 4-door hardtop sedan but for ’67, it looked more like a 4-door Grand Prix with its hidden tailights borrowed from the Grand Prix.

I love That site Too. i regret having to ” toss all my brochures both in 77, and again in 89 . Now Where Can I Find all the color charts! I would love to see production figures by color etc.
Looking at The Australian section Is Interesting. It Looks Like Our WHAT IFs here. They Like The Monte Carlo So They Do It In a sedan. Love The LTD Town Cars Too, theyLook Like 4 Door 74 t-bird/cordobas. avail in grey or burgundy only…
As far as I know, GM never kept track of production by color, but you can find the charts at http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/
Pontiacs are confusing as our new models never seem to match the US cars though not as bad as Australia with their Cheviacs.
The number plate reads like `DA TURD 1′? Or is it TURQ…
It’s “Turq”, which I assume refers to the turquoise color of the car.
